Managing Business Goal Weights

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to manage Business Goal Weights

Business Goal Weights

The Goal Weights file is used to help identify the weight of each business goal in relation to which bonus plan it belongs. For example, the Revenue goal may be weighted 60% for revenue generating bonus plan while it may only be weighted 40% for revenue enabling bonus plans.

It also defines the display order of business goals on the form. Unlike other variable pay data which can be created via import and admin interface, business goal weights can only be imported. However, there is a way to edit in the admin interface.

The Goal Weights Import File

The Goal Weights file contains information that relates to other variable pay data.

  • The Bonus Plan Name column relates to the Bonus Plan column in the Bonus Plan Data file.
  • The Business Goal Name column relates to the name column in the Business Goals Data file.

The business goal weights file is imported into SAP SuccessFactors via Manage Plan DetailsImport and Export Business Goal Weights.

When the Business Goal Weights file is imported, there is an option to Delete all existing records prior to importing new data. It is strongly recommended that a full file replacement be done each time, so that this option should generally be selected.

A sample import file for business goal weights.

A sample import file is available in the admin interface.

Editing Business Goal Weights in the Admin Interface

Once weights are imported, they can be modified in the admin interface. To do so, open an existing bonus plan and select Configure Business goal weights.

The Configure Business Goal Weights screen is displayed.

Weights and display order can be modified and saved.

Summary

  • Purpose of the Goal Weights File: The Goal Weights file is instrumental in identifying the weight of each business goal within its respective bonus plan. For instance, a Revenue goal might carry a weight of 60% in a revenue-generating bonus plan but only 40% in a revenue-enabling plan.

  • Importing and Editing Goal Weights: Unlike other variable pay data that can be created both via import and the admin interface, business goal weights can only initially be imported. However, subsequent edits can be made in the admin interface through an existing bonus plan by selecting Configure Business Goal Weights.

  • Content and Importing of Goal Weights File: The Goal Weights file contains critical information linking it to other variable pay data. The Bonus Plan Name column corresponds to the Bonus Plan column in the Bonus Plan Data file, and the Business Goal Name column corresponds to the name column in the Business Goals Data file. Importing is done through SAP SuccessFactors via Manage Plan Details → Import and Export Business Goal Weights.

  • Recommendation for Importing: When importing the Business Goal Weights file, it's highly recommended to select the option to delete all existing records prior to importing new data. This ensures a complete file replacement and maintains data integrity. A sample import file is available in the admin interface for guidance.
