Adding Charts

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to add charts directly to a Story without using the Data Explorer mode, using the Story we have created already.

Now let’s look at how we can also add charts directly to a story without using the data explorer mode

  1. Using the story we have created already, select the Left Side Panel button.

  2. Drag and drop the Chart widget into the story.

In the

  1. Under Accounts select + At least 1 Account required

  1. Navigate down through Accounts > Net Income > Operating Income > Gross Margin

  1. Select outside the dropdown selection box to close the dropdown.

  2. Under Dimensions select + Add Dimension.

  1. Select the Products checkbox.

The

  1. Within the chart, click on the green All Product Lines bar, then select the Drill Down icon > Products.

  1. The chart should now look like this:

  1. Under Currently Selected Chart, select the Combination Column & Line chart type.

Note

We can choose a different color scheme to highlight the measure by setting the Color scheme to the colors displayed in the screenshot.
  1. Under the Color section, select the Color icon dropdown, and go to Theme Colors > Datapoint Colors and select Positive Color. Then in the Palette Selection, select standardPalette8.

  1. The chart should match the screenshot:

Note

You can set specific patterns colors for chart objects if you wish.
  1. Sort the products in the report by Gross Margin by selecting More Actions > Sort > Gross Margin > Highest to Lowest.

  1. Your finished chart.

  1. Select Save Icon > Save to save the Story.

Now let’s look at how we can also add charts directly to a story without using the data explorer mode

  1. Using the story we have created already, select the Left Side Panel button.

  2. Drag and drop the Chart widget into the story.
