Create a Model

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to create a model and set the model preferences.

In SAP Analytics Cloud, models are the backbone of Stories. A model is the clean and defined version of your raw data used to create the visualizations contained in your stories.

Note: SAP Analytics Cloud models support several different scenarios for dynamically working with monetary data from different currencies.

  1. A currency table has already been created for use in this workshop. You can locate it in the Files repository.

  2. To access the table, expand the Main Menu by selecting the Expand Navigation Bar icon.

  1. Navigate to Files > My Files > Public > Currency Conversions. Then select PnL100_CCT.

  1. The Currency Table contains currency details for 20 currencies.

Create Model

  1. We will now create our own model. From the main menu, select Modeler and then Under the Models tab select the Create New Model tile.

  1. Choose Start with an empty model and select Create.

Set Initial Model Preferences

  1. In the main toolbar select the Model Settings icon.

  1. Under General Settings enter the following:

    • Name: PnL_Admin

    • Description: Profit and Loss Admin

  1. Select Access and Privacy the select the Data Audit checkbox.

  1. Select Planning then check and ensure Date Dimension used for Planning is set to Date.

  1. Under Conversion, select the following:

    • Check the Currency Conversion checkbox.

    Note

    This will highlight a missing Currency Dimension - we will add this later once created.
    • In the Currency Rates Table drop-down menu, select PnL100_CCT.

Then select OK to close the Model Settings dialog window.
