Configuration Scenario: Planned / Production Order Without BOM Explosion – Summary
The following figure gives you an overview of the Planned / Production Order scenario without BOM explosion.
Characteristic value assignment: The entire characteristic value assignment is carried out for the item entered in the sales order (constraints can be used).
Configuration: The object dependencies for the BOM items aren't evaluated until the BOM is exploded (for example, in material requirements planning). No constraints are considered in this evaluation.
The object dependency for lower-level configuration profiles can't be evaluated. The object dependencies for the BOM items are evaluated - but only the characteristic value assignment of the header material can be used here.
The BOM explosion:
Is simulated in the simulation environment

Material requirement: An independent requirement is created for the item entered in the sales order.
Material variant matching only takes place at the highest level. For the access object only, material variants (prev. Storage Types). This function doesn't exist for configurable materials at lower levels.
Scenario Planned / Production Order Without BOM Explosion – Focus
- Only the header object ($Root) can be configured interactively in the sales order.
- SD only creates an order(main) item for the entered material ($root object). There are no subitems.
- Components and operations are determined automatically during the MRP run and creation of the production order. Only one dynamic BOM or Routing exists.
- The explosion of the BOM or Routing can be simulated in the simulation environment.
- The availability check according to ATP logic can be carried out from the sales order for the header material. However, this is only a check against the replenishment lead time.
The function for creating order-specific routings isn't linked to settings with regard to the configuration scenario and can therefore also be used here.

Scenario Planned / Production order without BOM explosion:
If a sales order is created for a configurable material, only the valuation of the header material can be carried out.
The object dependencies in the configuration profile are only active for the header material.
A configurable assembly with profile can't be valuated.
$self is not possible in selection conditions of BOM items (this does not lead to syntax errors, but is semantically incorrect).
In the scenario Planned Production Order Without BOM Explosion, only the valuation of the header material, that is, $root, can be queried.
In the scenario Planned Production Order Without BOM Explosion, the valuation of the header material can also be queried with $parent.
If this specification is missing the default is $root.
If the evaluation of the Type of Drive is enough for specialization, this is how you can work with it.
If there are two different materials with the valuation GAS and once with 25 kW, once with 30 kW, and once with 45 kW, you don't have any influence on which material is used in MRP without specifying the Drive Performance characteristic.
Recommendation: Class nodes with automatic specialization may be given an additional selection condition if no material is needed or can't be found.
