Planning with Planning Variants

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain Planning with Planning Variants.

Planning with Planning Variants

The following figure explains the planning with planning variants and necessary strategy 54.

This figure explains the planning with planning variants and necessary strategy 54. Planned independent requirements exist for planning variants and dependent requirements at assembly level of the finished product.

Process Overview

This figure explains the process of working with planning variants. It starts with creating multiple planning variants and linking them to material master and BOMs. For the planning variants, you define independent requirements, and the consumption takes place with type matching. At assembly/item level, the planned independent requirements take place. An in-house production or external procurement follows.

Strategy 54 is a strategy with planning material.

Both the configurable finished product and the special variants – the planning variants – receive strategy 54.

Planned independent requirements are created for the planning versions. It leads to dependent requirements for the assemblies of the finished product. The BOMs for the configurable finished product are exploded according to the valuation in the material master of the planning variants.

The assemblies can be preproduced.

The planned independent requirements of the planning variants are consumed by sales orders for the finished product under the similarity determination.

Process Flow

This figure explains in detail the process flow of Planning with Planning Variants. The following notes explain the steps in more detail.
  1. Both the configurable material and the planning variants have strategy 54. The planning variants are maintained similarly to the material variants. In the MRP views, the link to the configurable material is established, and the valuation of the characteristics is carried out.
  2. A logic is required for the subsequent consumption of sales orders for the configurable material against the planned independent requirements of the planning variants. This is maintained by the type matching tools.
  3. Create planned independent requirements for the planning variants.
  4. In MRP, dependent requirements are generated for the assemblies of the configurable material.
  5. Based on this, these can be prefabricated.
  6. The sales order now received for the finished product would satisfy the dependent requirements from the stocks at assembly level.
  7. The requirement at configurable material level is consumed by a planned independent requirement of a planning variant. The corresponding planning variant is determined according to the type matching.

Type Matching
