In this lesson, you will specify the systems that you want to participate in data validation.
In the present version, the data transition validation tool offers the following scenarios:
| Scenarios | Source System | Target System |
| Conversion | SAP ECC | SAP S/4HANA |
| Lean SDT using BTC | SAP ECC | SAP S/4HANA |
| Upgrade* | SRC_S4 | TGT_S4 |
The SAP S/4HANA upgrade process uses the current release as the source; the target is the release you want to upgrade to.
For this lesson, you will choose SAP ECC as the source system and SAP S/4HANA as the target system.
Maintaining the Source and Target Systems
In the following exercise, you will perform the steps to maintain the source and target systems.
Note
- It doesn’t matter the order of adding the target and source systems; what's important is to add both and then save them.
- While there is no specific syntax for the systems’ names, we are recommending adding relevant names.
Additional Settings
As you might have observed in the exercise, there are a few fields that you didn’t fill in or select.
Here are some details on their functions:
- To allow the tool to use the maximum number of work processes, enter a number in the Maximum of Processes field. If left empty, the tool uses all the available processes.
- Enter a name in the Executing Server field to allow the tool to use a specified server. If you enter the Executing Server name, you cannot enter the Executing Group name. An execution group is a collection of servers. The tool can be executed from any server within the specified group.
- Optionally, you can lock or unlock the systems. If you lock any system, it cannot continue with any execution, such as simulation, extraction, or evaluation, unless you unlock it.

Summary
After this lesson, you can select the systems participating in the transition. The source system has the data against which it will be validated in the target system.
