Performing the Simulation

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to perform simulations for the test specifications defined.

Simulate Scenarios following the Defined Testing Criteria

You previously discovered how to create a project using the data transition validation tool, maintain the systems, import the pre-delivered content, and maintain the input parameters for the given report. So, all these first five steps were allocated to the tool's configuration. The following steps involve the actual execution of the validation.

Simulation

The first step of the execution part, and the 6th in the whole process, is the simulation step.

It will attempt to mock the execution and inform you if the specified input parameters for the report are correct. Additionally, it will indicate whether the tool can handle the volume of data.

You can use this step to verify if you set the parameters correctly in the previous steps. Based on the results, you can return and adjust those parameters.

Note

Simulation is an optional step. It is not mandatory, but we recommend performing this step in the initial execution cycles.

The main actions of the simulation could be triggered using the following buttons:

  1. Generate Workitems – based on inputs like Project Global Data, Splits, Condition, and Variants, the tool generates work items (with status set to New) and updates the overall Test Specification status to Generated.
  2. Simulate – triggers the simulation and populates the results after its completion
  3. Refresh - refreshes the data for the selected nodes across all the tabs and fetches recent results
  4. Reset - triggers deletion of the previously simulated results. The data in all the tabs is reset for the selected nodes. This action is executed if the simulation has already run.
  5. Summary - provides the execution summary of all the test specifications for all the systems.

Summary

You can now perform the simulation in the data transition validation to assess the quality of your project's configuration.
