Exploring the Position Tile View

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to configure and use the Position Tile View.

Position Tile Overview

The Position Tile View for MDF Positions allows succession planners to manage plans for a group of positions without having to navigate an organizational hierarchy. Each tile in the view represents a position, making it easy to search for specific positions and work within a smaller group. It’s useful for planners who are responsible for managing by department or level and would like to narrow the options by filtering on the positions.

The Position Tile View offers many benefits:

  • Complements the Succession Org Chart by providing a view of a group of positions for which they are responsible
  • Allows for search and filter based on position attributes to narrow down the position list
  • Integrates with Talent Search to find successors
  • Integrates with the Talent Card for insights into successors and incumbents. You can also open the Succession Org Chart directly from the Talent Card by clicking on the Action Menu in the top right of the Talent Card.

Position Tiles require the Succession Module, MDF Positions, and RBP position level permissions.

Navigate the Position Tile View

The Position Tile View is not an alternative to the Succession Org Chart. It is complementary to it. The Succession Org Chart remains the key entry point for several Succession transactions.

To see an overview of using the Position Tile View, please watch the video.

Review the actions that are available from the Position Tile View.

The following actions are available from the Position Tile View:

  2. Select a Position Tile to open the Position Card, which gives you the ability to add successors, edit the MDF Position object, view the Lineage Chart, and more.
  3. A key on the Position Tile indicates a key/critical position (positionCriticality field in MDF Position object). Select the arrow to export the single position to XML.
  4. Create a new Position (the user must have the appropriate permissions).Create a New Position using Position Tiles.

  7. The Position Tile Filter panel.
  8. Search based on the criteria entered into the filter.
  9. Add new filter criteria.
  10. Clear all filters and view all positions.

Adding successors to a position through the Position Tile View is easy. To add a successor nominee:

Then choosing Add (+) opens the same Add Successor Nominee options of Readiness, Emergency Cover, Rank, and Notes.

Screenshots related to nominating successors from a talent pool are displayed.

Position Tile Filters

The Position Tile view allows you to narrow down the position list using filters based on position attributes rather than people attributes. Since you may have thousands of positions listed in your Position Tile View, the filters are important to help you find the positions you’re looking for.

The Display Options - Filters in the Position Tile View is displayed.

Supported and Unsupported Filters

The following types of fields are supported as filters in the Position Tile view:

  • Picklist
  • Enum
  • String

  4. Choose Take Action and select the option Make Correction.
  5. Scroll down to the Searchable Fields section.
  6. Add the field name you wish to use as a filter to the Searchable Fields section.
