Input Control (filter) with Linked Analysis

Input Controls are configured to dynamically change which dimension members to display for widgets via filtering. By default all the widgets from the same data source will display any selected dimension members from the input control. You can further use linked analysis to modify the widgets affected by filtering.

With Linked Analysis, create filters or drill through hierarchical data in one chart, and the same filters are applied to other charts that you include in the analysis. For a filter to update other charts, the charts in the analysis must be based on the same model, or the source models must contain linked dimensions.

In this lesson you create an Input Control, to filter Products across select widgets.
After completing the lesson, your story (in edit mode) should look similar to:

Prerequisites
You have completed the following units and lessons:
- Getting Started with SAP Analytics Cloud
- Create your Story
- Add Numeric Point Charts
- Add Time Series Chart
- Add Table
- Add Geo Map
- Explored Data with Just Ask
- Link Data Models and Widgets
If you did not complete the prerequisite units, you can continue from a pre-created sample story.
Please create a copy of MyStory - Select - Input Controls in your private My Files folder.
- From the Navigation Bar click Files, and search for MyStory - Select - Input Controls.

- Check the box, and click the Copy To icon from the Files Toolbar.

Save a copy to your private folder.
- Click on My Files and name your story with your username _MyStory, update Description then click OK.

Add Input Control (filter)
Create an Input Control on the AIN360_ORDER_FINANCE data model to filter by Product.
Open your story in edit mode if not already.
- Locate _MyStory from the navigation bar at Files > My Files, or Stories > Recent Files.

- Select Edit.

Create an Input Control from the template place holder.
- Click Create an Input Control in the the left Filter lane.

- [Alternative 1] Open the Left Side Panel, from the View menu in Top Toolbar.

- [Alternative 1] From the Left Side Panel under the Assets tab, drag & drop the Input Control widget onto the to Filter Lane.

[Alternative 2] Click on the Filter Lane to put the focus where to add the new Input Control.

[Alternative 2] Click on Input Control from the Insert menu in the Top Toolbar.

Configure the widget settings.
- Click Dimensions.

- Select Product and Filter by Member.

- Select All Members, and click OK.

- Save your story.

- Quality Check: Does your Input Control look like this?

Linked Analysis
We don’t want the Gross Margin and Sales Revenue KPIs be dependent on the Product filter.
- Right-click on Product (All), then select Linked Analysis > Settings.

The Linked Analysis panel opens on the right.
- Select the Only Selected Widgets radio button, and then click the Select Widgets menu icon.

- Click the checkbox for Main_Lane_1, and click Select.

- Click Apply.

You now excluded the Gross Margin and Sales Revenue KPIs.
- Save your story.

Navigate the Input Control
Let’s filter on a specific Input Control product and see the widgets get updated.

Expand the Product Input Control, and deselect Soft Drinks in the dialog box.

Click Apply Selections.

Select All products again, and click Apply Selections.
