Generative AI assisted commenting

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to add AI assisted comments in SAP Analytics Cloud

Now let’s look at how we can add AI assisted comments in SAP Analytics Cloud. You can use the AI-assisted commenting feature to summarize data point comments. It’s also possible to rephrase the text using generative AI before adding a data point comment.

Data Point Comments

In addition to adding metadata comments to a widget, you can also comment on a specific data point in a table and in a comment widget. A comment on a data point is similar to commenting on a single cell in Microsoft Excel. Data point comments can be made only to planning models or an SAP BPC live model.

Create a Table

For this task, we are going to add a new page to our Story with a new table. Select the Add “+” button next to the Overview page tab, then select Add Canvas Page.

Drag and drop the Table widget from the Assets tab onto the canvas.

Under Rows select + Add Dimension.

Select Product.

Under Columns select + At least 1 Account required.

Select Gross Margin.

Under Columns select + Add Dimension.

Select Order Date.

Remove the Account column by selecting the X icon.

Note: This will just remove the Gross Margin column from the table, but the data will remain unchanged.

Your table should now look like this:

Click on the arrow to expand the Order Date (all). You will then see it broken down by year.

Add Data Point Comments and rephrase with AI

In order to add data point comments, you first must enable the Allow Data Point Comments option in the Properties section of the builder panel for the table.

Select the table, and then in the Builder panel on the right-hand side, scroll to the bottom and locate the Properties section. Then select Allow data point comments.

Once the table is enabled to allow data point comments, you can add one as follows:

Expand Soft Drinks, then select a base data cell from the table where we will add a comment. For this example select the Gross Margin for Cola in 2022 and then right-click and select Add Data Point Comment.

Enter your comment in the displayed dialog and select Add Comment to submit it. You can copy and paste the following comment text shown here:

Note

The comment is posted as part of a thread, and a colored wedge shape is now displayed at the top right of the cell indicating that there is a Data Point Comment associated with the cell.

Repeat step 1 to add a second comment to the same data cell, right-click it and then select Add Data Point Comment.
This time we will use AI functionality to rephrase the comment. Copy and paste the comment text shown here, and then select the Rephrase button:

The comment will be rephrased automatically, and a tagline will appear below confirming it was Created with AI. Select Add Comment to submit it.

Finally, let’s add another comment to a different cell. Select the Gross Margin for Soda in 2022 and then right-click and select Add Data Point Comment.

Enter your comment in the displayed dialog and select Add Comment to submit it. You can copy and paste the following comment text shown here:

Summarize Comments

We can use the AI-assisted commenting feature to Summarize Comments of Descendants that have been added in the table. We have added 3 comments so far, now let’s create a separate comments column to view and then summarize them under Net Income.

Right-click on the column header 2022, and select Add client calculation → Comment → Single.

You will see the comments that you submitted previously have been automatically added into the column (For Cola Gross Margin you added two comments, so only the most recent comment is displayed in the cell).

We are going to add a summary of these comments in the Soft Drinks (Gross Margin) cell of the Comments column. Select the cell and Right-click on it in the Comment column, then select Summarize Comments of Descendants (English)

The cell will display Summarizing… while the AI is creating the summary.

After a few seconds the AI summary of the comments of the descendants of the Gross Margin of Soft Drinks will be displayed in the cell.

You have now summarized your Data Point Comments using AI.

Select File and then the Save to save the Story.
