Choose different chart types to display different aspects of your data.

Numeric point charts are indicator charts used to show a business’s metrics. It required at least one primary value, but they can have multiple primary and secondary values. In both cases, only a single data point is displayed.

In this lesson, you add a Numeric Point Chart (Gross Margin) to your story. Then to save time and effort create a 2nd Numeric Point Chart (Sales Revenue) as a duplicate, it keeps the data model, existing filters, and any applied formatting.

After completing the lesson, your story (in edit mode) should look similar to:

Prerequisites

You have completed the following units:

  • Getting Started with SAP Analytics Cloud
  • Create your Story

If you did not complete the prerequisite units, you can continue from a pre-created sample story.

You already created a story, skip to

Please create a copy of MyStory - Select - Numeric Point Chart in your private My Files folder.

  1. From the Navigation Bar click Files, and search for MyStory - Select - Numeric Point Charts.

  2. Check the box, and click the Copy To icon from the Files Toolbar.

Save a copy to your private folder.

  1. Click on My Files and name your story with your username _MyStory, update the Description, then click OK.

Add Gross Margin Numeric Point Chart

Open your story in edit mode if not already.

  1. Locate _MyStory from the navigation bar at Files -> My Files, or Stories -> Recent Files.

  2. Select Edit.

Create a Numeric Point Chart from a placeholder.

  1. Click the + Create a Numeric Point Chart placeholder in the Header Lane of the template.

  2. The Right Side Panel (Builder, Styling) opens.

    See data model AIN360_ORDER_FINANCE added in the previous unit is already assigned by default to all widgets placeholders in the template.

    And the Currently Selected Chart is set to Numeric Point.

Select Gross Margin as the Primary Value for the numeric point chart.

  1. Click Available Objects to get a list of all available objects in the data model, and drag Gross Margin to the the Primary Values location.

  2. Close the Available Objects panel.

[Alternative] Another option to add Gross Margin.

  1. [Alternative] Click on + At least 1 Account required and select Gross Margin.

The Numeric Point KPIs should always display 2023 data.

  1. Click + Add Filters and select Order Date (Member).

  2. Expand the (all) node and select 2023, then click OK.

Format the Gross Margin number format.

  1. Click on the Styling tab within the panel, and scroll down to Number Format.

  2. Set the Scale to Million, and Scale Format to Thousand, Million, Billion.

  3. Deselect the Right Side Panel (Builder, Styling) from the View menu in the Top Toolbar, to close the panel.

  4. Quality Check: Does your Gross Margin numeric point KPI looks like this?

Add Sales Revenue Numeric Point Chart

The new numeric point chart should have the same filter and format, so it is quicker to duplicate the one you already created and modify it. Duplicating the KPI keeps the data model, the existing filters, and any formatting already applied.

  1. Click More Actions on the Gross Margin chart.

  2. Then select Copy and Duplicate.

  3. Select the duplicated chart, then Drag & Drop it to the left of the Gross Margin Numeric Point Chart.

Now replace the Primary Value to Sales Revenue.

  1. With the duplicated Numeric Point chart still selected, open the Right Side Panel (Builder, Styling) from the View menu in the Top Toolbar.

  2. Replace the Gross Margin Primary Value with Sales Revenue.

  3. Deselect the Right Side Panel (Builder, Styling) from the View menu in the Top Toolbar, to close the panel.

  4. Save your story.

  5. Quality Check: Does your Gross Margin and Sales Revenue numeric point KPIs look like this?

In a later unit (Formatting) you will add variances to the Numeric Point Charts.
