Dimension Input Control

Dimension Input controls give you the ability to change which dimensions to display for your charts or tables.

In this lesson you add a Dimension Input Control to view salary data by different dimensions.

After completing the lesson, your story (in edit mode) should look similar to:

Prerequisites

You have completed the following units and lessons:

  • Getting Started with SAP Analytics Cloud
  • Create your Story
  • Add Numeric Point Charts
  • Add Time Series Chart
  • Add Table
  • Add Geo Map
  • Explored Data with Just Ask
  • Link Data Models and Widgets
  • Input Control (filter) with Linked Analysis

If you did not complete the prerequisite units, you can continue from a pre-created sample story.

Please create a copy of MyStory - Select - Dimension Input Control in your private My Files folder.

  1. From the Navigation Bar click Files, and search for MyStory - Select - Dimension Input Control.

  1. Check the box, and click the Copy To icon from the Files Toolbar.

Save a copy to your private folder.

  1. Click on My Files and name your story with your username _MyStory, update Description, then click OK.

Add Dimension Input Control

Add the option to view salary data not only by Department, but also Employment Type and Position.

Open your story in edit mode if not already.

  1. Locate _MyStory from the navigation bar at Files > My Files, or Stories > Recent Files.

  1. Select Edit.

  1. Open the Right Side Panel (Builder / Styling) from the View menu in the main toolbar, if not already open.

  1. Click on the Salary by Department, Position bar chart.

Note

This chart was created in an earlier lesson with Just Ask.
  1. Click the Data icon to get a list of all available objects in the data model, and select Dimension Input Control +.

  1. Select the Department, Employment Type and Position dimensions, then click OK.

  1. Click on the Salary by Position, Department bar chart again. The Data panel should still be open.

Replace the static Dimension with a dynamic Dimension.

  1. In the Builder tab, remove the Position Dimension by clicking on the X.

  1. Drag and Drop the newly created New Dimension Input Control from the Data panel to the Dimensions location.

  1. Deselect the Right Side Panel (Builder / Styling) from the View menu in the main toolbar, to close the panel.

The dimension input control widget was added to the bottom of the page.

  1. Drag and Drop the New Dimension Input Controls widget to the Filter lane.

Rename the Dimension Input Control.

  1. Double click on the New Dimension Input Control and Rename to “Select Dimension”.

  1. Resize the Dimension Input Control to display all the Dimensions.

Swap dimensions.

  1. Select Employment Type dimension and see the chart gets updated.

In a later lesson you will also make the chart description dynamic.

  1. Save your story.

  1. Quality Check: Does your chart look like this?

Add Dimension Input Control
