Choose different chart types to display different aspects of your data.
Trend analysis is one of the best ways to analyze your data over a set time period. Time Series Chart is a type of trend chart that plots your data in a time frame line chart by default. Each point on the chart corresponds to a time and value.

In this lesson, you add a Time Series Chart to your story.
After completing the lesson, your story (in edit mode) should look similar to:

Prerequisites
You have completed the following units and lessons:
- Getting Started with SAP Analytics Cloud
- Create your Story
- Add Numeric Point Charts
If you did not complete the prerequisite units, you can continue from a pre-created sample story.
Please create a copy of MyStory - Select - Time Series Chart in your private My Files folder.

From the Navigation Bar click Files, and search for MyStory - Select - Time Series Chart.

Select the checkbox, and click the Copy To icon from the Files Toolbar.

Save a copy to your private folder.
- Click on My Files and name your story with your username _MyStory, update Description, then click Copy.

Add Time Series Chart
Open your story in edit mode if not already.
- Locate _MyStory from the navigation bar at Files > My Files, or Stories > Recent Files.

- Select Edit.

Add the Time Series Chart from the Left Side Panel.

Open the Left Side Panel from the View menu in the Top Toolbar, if not already open.

Click on the Main Lane to select area where to add the new widget.

From the Left Side Panel under the Assets tab Drag & Drop the Chart widget onto the to Main Lane.

Notice the Right Side Panel (Builder, Styling) automatically opens.

In the Builder tab, expand the Currently Selected Chart dropdown, and select the Time Series chart.

Click the Data icon in the Right Side Panel to get a list of all available objects in the data model, and drag Gross Margin to the Accounts location, and Order Date to the Time location.


- Close the Data panel.
[Alternative] Another option to add Gross Margin and Order Date.
- [Alternative] Under Accounts, click on + At least 1 Account required and select Gross Margin.


- [Alternative] Under Time, click on + At least 1 Dimension required and select Order Date.


Close the Right Side Panel.
- Deselect the Right Side Panel (Builder, Styling) from the View menu in the Top Toolbar, to close the panel.

Resize the chart to make it more readable.

You can now see Gross Margin by time in the Time Series Chart.

- Select a different time series (e.g. 3 months) and see the chart and slider gets updated.

- Save your story.
