SAP Analytics Cloud provides native ESRI integration without requiring additional licensing. There are several map themes to match your desired level of detail and design.
Using SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP HANA Spatial technology, you can overlay business data on geo maps with detailed geographic information.

In this lesson you add a Geo Map with two Choropleth layers, to visualize Gross Margin %, Gross Margin, and Quantity Sold information.
After completing the lesson, your story (in edit mode) should look similar to:

Prerequisites
You have completed the following units and lessons:
- Getting Started with SAP Analytics Cloud
- Create your Story
- Add Numeric Point Charts
- Add Time Series Chart
- Add Table
If you did not complete the prerequisite units, you can continue from a pre-created sample story.
Please create a copy of MyStory - Select - Geo Map in your private My Files folder.
- From the Navigation Bar click Files, and search for MyStory - Select - Geo Map.

- Select the checkbox, and click the Copy To icon from the Files Toolbar.

Save a copy to your private folder.
- Click on My Files and name your story with your username _MyStory, update Description, then click OK.

Add Geo Map
Open your story in edit mode if not already.
- Locate _MyStory from the navigation bar at Files > My Files, or Stories > Recent Files.

- Select Edit.

Add a Geo Map widget from the Insert menu in the Top Toolbar.
- Click on the Main Lane to select area where to add the new widget.

- Click Add (+) > Others > Geo Map, from the Insert Menu in the main toolbar.

Note the Right Side Panel (Builder / Styling) automatically opens.

If the widget are added to the wrong location, drag it to where it should be, or click Undo under the Edit menu in the Top Toolbar.

Add a Value Layer
Add and configure the Choropleth layers of style Bubble.
In the Choropleth layer, your dimensions and measures are visualized by displaying shaded geographical shapes or bubbles. You will create a layer for each.
- In the Builder tab under Content Layers, click + Add Layer.

- Keep the Layer Type as Bubble for now.

- Change the Layer Name to Value.
On the Value layer you want to visualize Gross Margin and Sales Revenue related values.

Assign Store Location Dimension.
- Select the Data icon to get a list of all available objects in the data model, and then drag StoreLocation to Location Dimension required.

- Click X or the Data icon again, to close the Data panel.

- Now view the various customer locations that you sell to.

Since there are so many locations, you want to switch into a Drill Layer and visualize aggregated data by region instead.
- From the available Layer Types select Choropleth / Drill.

The Geo Map now shows us the shapes for each region with the ability to drill into each of them.

However, you want to display the data points as bubbles as it allows to compare two measures and drill as well. Let’s change the style.
- Change the Layer Style to Bubble.

The Geo Map now shows bubbles for each region.

Next create a Gross Margin % calculation and view it in relation with other values.
- Select the Data icon, then under Accounts click the + next to Calculations.

Within the Calculation Editor, update the following:
- Type: select Calculated Account
- Name (ID): enter Gross Margin %
- Edit Formula = enter (Gross_Margin / Sales_Revenue) * 100
Note: (Start typing Gross or Sales, and then select the account from the suggestions)
- Select Format to validate your formula.
- Select OK, to save the settings.

- Drag the Gross Margin % calculation under Accounts > Calculations to Bubble Color.

[Alternative] Another option to add Gross Margin %.
- [Alternative] Select Gross Margin % from + Add Dimensions/Account under Bubble Color.

Now that you have a value assigned to color, let’s change it’s color palette.
- Under Bubble Color click to expand Gross Margin %.

- Select the Edit Palette icon.

- Select gradientPalette3 from the Theme Palettes.

- Collapse to hide the color palette for Gross Margin %.

Add another account (measure) to the bubble size showing the relation for the Gross Margin %, to either Gross Margin, or Sales Revenue.
- Drag Gross Margin from Accounts > Accounts to + Add Account under Bubble Size.

[Alternative] Another option to add Gross Margin.
- [Alternative] Select Gross Margin from + Add Account under Bubble Size.

- Close the Data panel by selecting the Data icon again or by clicking the X.

- Quality check: Does your Geo Map with the Value layer look like this?

Add Quantity Layer
Add a second layer to visualize in a shape style, quantity sold, and aggregated by region.
- In the Builder tab, select Geo Map Layers to navigate back.

- Under Content Layers, click + Add Layer.

Update the settings for the second layer:
- Layer Type: Choropleth / Drill
- Style: Shape (Choropleth)
- Layer Name: Quantity

Open the Data tab and add the following:
- Under Location Dimensions drag StoreLocation to + Location Dimension required.
- Under Accounts > Accounts, drag Quantity Sold to + Add Acocunt for Choropleth Color.

In the Builder tab, select Geo Map Layers to navigate back.

Drag and drop the Value layer above the Quantity layer.

Adjust the map’s base layer for a more desired look and feel.
- In the Builder tab under Base Layer, expand the the Base Layer Style, and select Transparent Dark Gray.

Resize the Geo Map widget if needed.

Save your story.

- Quality Check: Does your Geo Map look like this?

Navigate the Geo MAP
- Hover your cursor over any bubble to see the regions Gross Margin % compared to Gross Margin values.

- Hover your cursor over any shape to see the region’s Quantity Sold.

Germany is an outlier, let’s drill into it to get a more detailed breakdown.
- Select the Bubble for Germany, and then select the Drill Down icon.

- Click the Zoom In icon to get a better view of the regions.

- Click on any Bubble and select Drill Up.

Close the Right Side panel and Filter panel.

Deselect the Right Side Panel (Builder, Styling) and Filter Panel, from the View menu in the Top Toolbar, to close the panels.

Add a second layer to visualize in a shape style, quantity sold, and aggregated by region.
- In the Builder tab, select Geo Map Layers to navigate back.

- Under Content Layers, click + Add Layer.
