Link Dimensions allow you to create blended visualizations that display data from multiple models. It also allows you to create filters that simultaneously update all visualizations that include linked data regardless of the model. By default, the ID attribute is used to match members between the linked dimensions. However it is possible to use Description, or ID and Description instead.

Linked Analysis drive filters across all widgets. Filtering on an object updates all the objects in the page, based on the same model or linked dimensions to the object’s model.

In this lesson you use the Sales Manager dimension to link the AIN360_ORDER_FINANCE and AIN360_HR_Employee_salary.xlsx data models together. Then configure Linked Analysis to filter across select widgets.
Prerequisites
You have completed the following units and lessons:
- Getting Started with SAP Analytics Cloud
- Create your Story
- Add Numeric Point Charts
- Add Time Series Chart
- Add Table
- Add Geo Map
- Explored Data with Just Ask
If you did not complete the prerequisite units, you can continue from a pre-created sample story.
Please create a copy of MyStory - Select - Link Data Models in your private My Files folder.
- From the Navigation Bar click Files, and search for MyStory - Select - Link Data Models.

- Check the box, and click the Copy To icon from the Files Toolbar.

Save a copy to your private folder.

Click on My Files and name your story with your username _MyStory, update Description, then click OK.

Link Dimension across Data Models
The Sales Manager dimension is common in the two datasets. Let’s link them.
Open your story in edit mode if not already.

Locate _MyStory from the navigation bar at Files > My Files, or Stories > Recent Files.

Select Edit.

Click Link Dimensions, from the Tools menu in Top Toolbar.

- Ensure the AIN360_ORDER_FINANCE and AIN360_HR_Employee_Salary.xlsx models are selected. Then select the following dimensions for each model:
- Select the Sales Manager dimension for the AIN360_ORDER_FINANCE model.
- Select the Employee dimension for the AIN360_HR_Employee_Salary.xlsx model.

Link both dimensions by ID.
- Click the Link Attribute icon for both Matched Dimensions and select ID. Then click Save.

- Review the Link Dimensions and click Done, when finished.

The data models are now linked.
- Save your story.

Link Dimensions across Widgets
Configure linked analysis to drive filters across all widgets in the Main lane only.

Click on the Table widget.

Select More Actions > Linked Analysis > Settings.

- Select Only Selected Widgets, select both checkboxes under Settings, and then click on the Select Widgets menu icon.

- Select all widgets for the Main_Lane_1, and click Select.
Note: You don’t want the KPIs in the Header_Lane_1 to get updated. It should always reflect a complete view of the company’s performance.

- Click Apply.

- Save your story.

Let’s filter on a specific Sales Manager and see the widgets get updated.
- Click on Sales Manager Nancy Miller in the Finance table, and see all widgets get updated.
Now you have a clear view on a Sales Manager’s performance.
- Quality Check: Does your story look like this?

- Click anywhere else on the table to release the filter.
