Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to understand how to use the Inventory Profiles app.

Inventory Profiles App

With this app, you can create and view inventory profiles. To use this app, your business role must contain the business catalog Inventory Profiles (SAP_IBP_BC_INV_PPF_PC).

Purpose

The Inventory Profiles app allows you to create and edit profiles that can be used with inventory optimization operators.

Key Features

You can use this app to do the following:

  • Define a profile name and description.

  • Set a planning area for the profile.

  • Define a planning horizon for the profile.

  • Define an optimization horizon for the profile (optional)
  • Define the forecast error type.
  • Define various parameters for inventory planning operators.

Inventory Optimization Profiles

You can use inventory optimization planning profiles to configure planning area setting for inventory operators. To define profiles, you use the Inventory Profiles app.

Creating a Profile

When you create a new profile, you select the planning area and the planning horizon for the area.

To create a new profile:

  1. In the Inventory Profiles app, choose Create.
  2. On the Inventory Profiles Details page, enter the following:
    • Profile name
    • Description (optional)
    • Planning area
    • Planning horizon value. It can only be maintained in weeks, the default is 52 weeks, and the horizon cannot be greater than 260 weeks. This is a mandatory setting.
    • Optimization horizon value. It can only be maintained in weeks, the default is 52 weeks, and the horizon cannot be greater than 260 weeks. This is an optional setting.
    • Forecast error type
    • Parameters
  3. Choose Save.

Note

Not all of the parameters mentioned above can be used in every inventory-related planning operator.

You can use profiles configured in the Inventory Profiles app to run inventory optimization operators in the Inventory Analysis app, the Application Jobs app, and the SAP Integrated Business Planning, add-in for Microsoft Excel (SAP IBP, add-in for Microsoft Excel).

  • Use the Run, Schedule, and Status functions

  • Select an inventory profile for a planning operator

  • Select one of the following functions:

    • Global (multi-stage) inventory optimization

    • Calculate Target Inventory Components

    • Decomposed (single-stage) inventory optimization

    • Multi-Stage Optimization and Target Inventory Components

    • Multi-Stage Network

    • Service Level Prediction

  • Select scenarios, versions, and subnetworks

  • Apply filters

Note

You can also use the Excel add-in to run inventory optimization operators as simulations.

Business Example

As inventory planner you would like to create an inventory profile for planning horizons using the SAP Fiori app Inventory Profiles. To do that we will work during this exercise with the connection ZIOUNIFIED within the Planning Area ZIOUNIFIED.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites

  • Access to Inventory Profiles App is required.
  • For this exercise we will work with an inventory profile that needs to be created for this purpose: Inventory Profile Inventory Planning Profile ## in planning area ZIOUNIFIED.
  • All previous exercises are prerequisites.

Steps

  1. Open the Inventory Profiles app to check which options are available.

    1. Go to the Web UI, navigate to Inventory Planner group and open the Inventory Profiles app.

    2. Note that in this environment we have prepared several inventory profiles within the ZIOUNIFIED Planning Area.

    3. Click on each profile assigned to ZIOUNIFIED Planning Area to see the settings: Name, Description, Administrative Information, and Planning Horizon.

    4. These inventory profiles save the settings to be used within Inventory optimization runs as the planning area and the planning horizon.

  2. Create an Inventory Planning Profile - ## to with the planning horizon 52 and the planning area ZIOUNIFIED.

    1. Go to the Web UI, navigate to Inventory Planner group and open the Inventory Profiles app.

    2. Click on Create.

    3. Type in under name and description Inventory Planning Profile - ##.

    4. Planning Area: ZIOUNIFIED.

    5. Planning Horizon: 52.

    6. Keep all other settings as they are and click Create.

Results

Now you have seen how you can create an inventory profile via the inventory profiles app. The profile will be used in order to run the planning operators for IBP for Inventory.
