Create a Dimension

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to create a product, organization and account dimensions
  1. Click the dropbox selection besides Edit

  2. Click Add Dimension.

  1. Name the dimension Admin_COA .

  2. Set Type to Account.

  3. Leave Make Public unchecked.

  4. Click Add to add the Dimension.

  1. Within the Dimension Settings panel on right hand side, in the Description field enter Accounts and hit the return key.

  1. Hover over AdminXXX_COA and then select the Edit Dimension Table button.

  1. In the Dimension Table settings, under Hierarchies, select More.

  1. Select Edit.

  1. De-select Value is Mandatory and click OK.

  1. Select Grid mode.

  1. Add the first account by entering the values shown here:

  1. We could continue to type in all of our dimension information manually, however to save time, these details can also be pasted in from an Excel file.

  2. If you have not already downloaded the Excel file "SAC Workshop.xls" right click on Files and select Open App in New Tab (but do not close your original browser tab).

  1. In the new tab that opens, under Files, navigate to the Datasets folder: My Files > Public > Experience Academy - SAC Planning > Datasets and then select the SAC Workshop.xls file.

  1. Then select the downloaded file SAC Workshop.xls to open it.

  1. In the Excel file, select the PnL_COA sheet.

  2. Select cell A2 through N18 only (Accounts but not KPIs).

  3. Use Ctrl+C to copy the selection.

  4. Then return to your original SAP Analytics Cloud browser tab that you still have open.

  5. Select the first cell of the first row - PL010

  6. Paste the copied content (Ctrl+V).

  1. Select the back arrow to return to main model.

Create Organization Dimension

  1. Select the Add button under Edit.

  2. Select Add Dimension.

  1. Enter name AdminXXX_ORG (replacing XXX with your user ID).

  2. Set Type to Organization.

  3. Select the checkbox for Make Public.

  4. Click Add.

  1. In the Dimension Settings panel enter Organization as the Description.

  1. Select the Edit Dimension Table button beside Admin_ORG.

  1. Within the Dimensions Settings panel, scroll down to the Hierarchies section.

  2. Select the + Create Hierarchy button.

  3. Select Parent-Child Hierarchy.

  1. Name the hierarchy H1 and the description H1.

  2. Click Create.

  1. Select Grid Mode if not already selected.

  2. Return to the downloaded Excel Sheet SAC Workshop.xls.

  3. Select the PnL_ORG sheet.

  4. Select all of the cells from A2 through E21.

  5. Use Ctrl+C to copy the selection.

  6. Return to your original SAP Analytics Cloud browser tab.

  7. Select the first cell of the first row - #

  8. Paste the copied content (Ctrl+V).

  9. Replace ADMIN in the Person Responsible column with your user ID.

  1. Select the back arrow to return to main model.

Create Products Dimension

  1. Select the Add button under Edit.

  2. Select Add Dimension.

  1. Enter Name: AdminXXX_PRD (replacing XXX with your user ID).

  2. Select Type Generic.

  3. Leave Make Public unchecked, as it is by default.

  4. Select Add.

  1. In the Dimension Settings panel, enter Products as the Description.

  1. Select the Edit Dimension Table button beside Admin###_PRD.

  1. Within the Dimensions Settings panel, scroll down to the Hierarchies section.

  2. Select the + Create Hierarchy button.

  3. Select Parent-Child Hierarchy.

  1. Name the hierarchy H1 and the description H1.

  2. Select Create.

  1. In the Dimension Settings panel, scroll down to the Properties section and select the + Create Property button.

  1. Enter the following values:

    Code Snippet
    123456
    ID: Volume Description: Volume Type: Text
  2. Select Create.

  1. Select Grid Mode if not already selected.

  2. Return to the downloaded Excel Sheet SAC Workshop.xls.

  3. Select the PnL_PRD sheet.

  4. Select all of the cells from A2 through D23.

  5. Use Ctrl+C to copy the selection.

  6. Return to your original SAP Analytics Cloud browser tab.

  7. Select the first cell of first row - #

  8. Paste the copied content (Ctrl+V).

  9. Select the back arrow to return to main model.

Set Final Model Preferences

We will now add a Measure to our model and set the final preferences.

  1. Select the Add button under Edit.

  2. Select Add Measure.

  1. In the Settings panel on the right side of the screen, in the General section, enter the Name as Measure_AdminXXX (replacing XXX with your user ID).

  1. In the Units & Currencies section, set the Unit Type to Currency.

  2. Set Currency to From Dimension and AdminXXX_ORG.

  1. Select the Edit Dimension Details button beside Date.

  1. Set the From/To Year values to 2018 and 2023.

  1. Select the back arrow to return to the Model Structure screen.

  1. Under General select Save to save the model.

  1. Under My Files, name the model PnL_AdminXXX (replacing XXX with your user ID) and select the Save button to finish.

  1. Select Graph from the Model View dropdown.

  1. Your finished Model should look like this:

Create Products Dimension

  1. Select the Add button under Edit.

  2. Select Add Dimension.

  1. In the Dimension Settings panel, scroll down to the Properties section and select the + Create Property button.

  1. Enter the following values:

  2. Select Create.

  1. Select Grid Mode if not already selected.

  2. Return to the downloaded Excel Sheet SAC Workshop.xls.

  3. Select the PnL_PRD sheet.

  6. Return to your original SAP Analytics Cloud browser tab.

Set Final Model Preferences

We will now add a Measure to our model and set the final preferences.

  1. Select the Add button under Edit.

  2. Select Add Measure.

  1. In the Settings panel on the right side of the screen, in the General section, enter the Name as Measure_AdminXXX (replacing XXX with your user ID).

  1. In the Units & Currencies section, set the Unit Type to Currency.

  2. Set Currency to From Dimension and AdminXXX_ORG.

  1. Select the Edit Dimension Details button beside Date.

  1. Set the From/To Year values to 2018 and 2023.

  1. Select the back arrow to return to the Model Structure screen.

  1. Under General select Save to save the model.

  1. Under My Files, name the model PnL_AdminXXX (replacing XXX with your user ID) and select the Save button to finish.

  1. Select Graph from the Model View dropdown.
