In the Story’s Responsive page option, widgets can be snapped into place, providing a consistent design across different screen sizes and orientations. This is also where we will build our Value Driver Tree.
Click on the Main Menu in the top-left of the screen.

Click on Stories and select Responsive.

Select Optimized Design Experience to use the new features of Story 2.0 for the Value Driver Tree design and then click Create.

Under Others, drag and Drop the Value Driver Tree (VDT) widget onto the Story canvas.

Click on the Select a data source dropdown.

Select PnL_Admin_NEW_### as your data model.

Expand the VDT Widget on the canvas by dragging from the corner.

Under the Filter section click Date.

Set the date range from 2019 to 2023.

Click on Version (1) under Filter.

Select Forecast, and click OK.

Click on Auto-Create Value Driver Tree from Model…

De-select All Accounts, select Net Income and then click OK.

The VDT diagram will be displayed. You can zoom out/in to get a better view of the nodes. Locate the Product Sales node to the right of the VDT.

In the Product Sales node, click on the first year that has no sales data added (here you can see it is 2021).

Enter 1761000 via the calculator menu that appears and then click OK.

You will see the value updated in yellow in both Product Sales and Total Sales.

In the Builder panel, click the + under Node List to add a Node to the VDT.

Change the name of the new Node to FPS Product Sales.

Click Add Account.

Click Select Account.

Search for Product Sales, select it and click OK.

Click Add Filter.

Click Products.

Expand All Product Lines, select First Person Star then click OK.

In the VDT you will see that the FPS Product Sales node has now been filtered by First Person Star.

Under the Relationships section click on Add Parent.

Select Product Sales.

You will now see the FPS Product Sales node connected to the Product Sales node.

Click on the open canvas area of the VDT Widget to bring focus back on it in the Builder.

In the Builder panel, click the + under Node List to add another Node to the VDT.

Change the name of the new Node to RG Product Sales.

Click Add Account.

Click Select Account…

Search for Product Sales, select it and click OK.

Click Add Filter.

Click Products.

Expand All Product Lines, select Role Game then click OK.

In the VDT you will see that the RG Product Sales node has now been filtered by Role Game.

Under the Relationships section click on Add Parent.

Select Product Sales.

You will now see that both RG Product Sales and FPS Product Sales nodes are connected to the Product Sales node.

Click on the open canvas area of the VDT Widget to bring focus back on it in the Builder.

In the Builder panel, click the + under Node List to add another Node to the VDT.

Change the name of the new Node to SP Product Sales.

Click Add Account.

Click Select Account…

Search for Product Sales, select it and click OK.

Click Add Filter.

Click Products.

Expand All Product Lines, select Sports then click OK.

Under the Relationships section click on Add Parent.

Select Product Sales.

You will now see that all three of the nodes we added; FPS Product Sales, RG Product Sales and SP Product Sales are connected to the Product Sales node.

Click on the open canvas area of the VDT Widget to bring focus back on it in the Builder.

In the Builder panel, click the + under Node List to add another Node to the VDT.

Change the name of the new Node to ST Product Sales.

Click Add Account.

Click Select Account…

Search for Product Sales, select it and click OK.

Click Add Filter.

Click Products.

Expand All Product Lines, select Strategy then click OK.

Under the Relationships section click on Add Parent.

Select Product Sales.

You will now see that all four of the nodes we added; FPS Product Sales, RG Product Sales, SP Product Sales and ST Product Sales are connected to the Product Sales node.

Now let’s save your progress. Click the save icon under File then click Save.

In the Save Story dialog box, click into My Files, then enter the name VDT Story #### (replacing #### with your user ID), then click OK.

You will get a confirmation at the bottom of the screen that the story has saved successfully.

Let’s view our finished Value Driver Tree. Click on View in the top-right corner.

Using the magnifier tool in the bottom corner, you can quickly move around the VDT.

Click on the value for the latest year in the FPS Product Sales node, then adjust the slider to +5%. Then click OK.

You will see the +5% change updated for each node that is connected in this branch of the VDT.

Well done! You have now created a Value Driver Tree from scratch using Story 2.0.
