Confirming Network Activities Using the Cross Application Time Sheet (CATS)

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to confirm network activities using the Cross Application Time Sheet (CATS)

Cross Application Time Sheet (CATS)

Data Entry Screen of the Time Sheet

Screenshot of a time sheet data entry screen showing personnel number, activity details, travel expenses, worklist, and data entry sections with various profiles.

Time data is entered for one or more people.

CATS facilitates a flexible screen configuration for the settings, the worklist, and the data entry section, depending on the following:

  • The group of employees (via data entry profile)

  • User-defined (via table control)

You can use worklists to simplify time data entry for the employees. Employees use the data in the worklist (for example, the information for the account assignment object) as templates for the data entry section. The worklists can be filled in using the following data:

  • Activities to which the employee is assigned via the work center or workforce planning (for PS, PM, SM)

  • Activities via pool of confirmations (for PS, PM, SM)

  • Objects the employee is working on (using the CATS database)

  • Objects via BAdIs

Customizing for CATS using Data Entry Profiles

Data entry profiles for cross application time sheet components are maintained in customizing.

Data Entry Profile: Worklist

  • Workforce planning

  • Assigned work center

  • Pool of confirmations info system

The data entry profile determines how the times are entered (via field selection of the receiver) and to which components activity data is transferred. For example, it determines whether the times that were entered were released when they were saved and whether approval is required.

CATS Field Selection

The field selection determines which of the fields in the work list and data entry screen groups are displayed and which are ready for input.

The field selection can be controlled using the data entry profile field.

Ensure that the field selection is as simple as possible and does not contain any unnecessary fields. All possible receivers for activities should appear for a person or group of persons. If the person works for a network as well as a receiver cost center, for example, both receivers should appear as options in the field selection.

Line Item Reporting with SAP HANA

Accelerated Reporting with SAP HANA — Line Item Reporting

With the introduction of SAP HANA as the new in-memory database, new reporting options became available that can be used in SAP Project System as well. The new line item reports are based on the new possibilities provided by SAP HANA database.

The accelerated of the new transactions uses the column storage of the SAP HANA database in such a way that only certain columns of the report are imported. For example, if you do not have the cost element in your layout, then the cost element is not imported and all line items are summarized. In general, all fields that are not selected are summarized.

Screenshot of selection screen options for accelerated report display with data load settings, hierarchy tree navigation, and layout display in SAP interface.

On the initial screen of the transactions CJI3N (Projects Line Items Actual Costs New) and CJI4N (Projects Line Items Plnd Costs New), there are new parameters available in the Display options frame.

With accelerated selection, the line item report is started with a new selection logic. The database reads only the columns that are used in the current layout. The database access to select the cost rates takes place on the SAP HANA database that is set up in Customizing (selection of objects continues to take place via the ERP database).

With Hierarchy display, a tree is displayed beside the output list with the hierarchy of the selected objects.

Reporting with SAP HANA: Large Hierarchies

In the case of large hierarchies, it is recommended that you do not immediately import all line items, but select them by navigating in the tree. For this reason, you can use the tree-structure first without display of the line items.

The result screen consists of three parts offering several navigation options. You can double-click a node to start a line item report for the selected objects only. When you click a node, all objects under this node are used for the selection. The display of the line items is automatically refreshed. You can show or hide the complete tree.

You also have the option to select different layouts by choosing the corresponding name. The columns used in this layout are then used for the reselection of line items on the SAP HANA database.

The line item display offers the usual options (navigation to the original documents, accounting document, or master record).

If you change the current layout (for example, by adding a new column), the system reads the new column on the SAP HANA database and the display is refreshed. This is also the case if you select another layout manually in the menu.
