Defaulting Wage Types

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to configure default values for the basic pay infotypee

Default Wage Types

If you want the system to suggest a default wage type for basic pay, this wage type must be included in a wage type model.

The system suggests a wage type model based on an employee’s organizational assignment.

For example, an employee’s organizational assignment includes the following:

  • Company code
  • Personnel area
  • Employee group
  • Employee subgroup

The system uses this information to define a default for a wage type model.

LGMST Feature

The LGMST feature helps reduce the amount of routine work involved in creating a Basic Pay infotype record (0008). The system displays the default wage types for the administrator either as required or optional entries. The default Wage type model is selected based on the decision tree of the LGMST feature.

You can use the Default Wage Types for Basic Pay Table to define wage types for the Basic Pay infotype (0008). An entry is accessed by processing a decision tree using the LGMST feature.

The LGMST feature has the following two return values:

  • The maximum number of wage type lines available for input in the Basic Pay infotype
  • The wage type model that the system is to use

Wage Type Models

A wage type model allows you to define the sequence of the defaulted wage types. It also indicates whether or not, you can overwrite the defaulted wage type (in the Mode field). The IMG activity performed for the aforesaid functionalities is called Revise Default Wage Types .

How to Use the LGMST Feature

Implement the LGMST feature in the IMG step. You will make entries to ensure that your wage type model (HRLY##) is defaulted for your employee subgroup. You will also be able to assign different wage types in the Basic Pay infotype.

Steps

  1. Check the LGMST feature in the IMG step: Enterprise Structure for Wage Type Model. What entry does the trainer have to make to ensure that your wage type model (HRLY##) is defaulted for your employee subgroup? You should be able to assign a total of 5 wage types in the Basic Pay infotype.

    Hint

Set up the wage type group as pre-work before completing the demo (the feature needs to be activated to show the results). You may want to set up the LGMST feature for all participants instead of having them update the feature themselves. If you choose to do this, instruct participants to review the LGMST feature in the exercise titled Update the LGMST Feature.
    1. On the HR305 HR Data Maintenance, choose Personnel ManagementPersonnel AdministrationPayroll DataBasic PayWage TypesEnterprise Structure for Wage Type Model .

    2. The system displays the Process feature LGMST: decision tree screen .

    3. If you want to change the LGMST feature in tree maintenance, you must perform the following processing activities:

      1. In country grouping 99 , search for the node PERSK and the employee group ACTIVE . Position the cursor on the PERSK node and select the function Create nodes . On the Values for PERSK screen, enter ## (## is your new employee subgroup). Then, select Transfer .
      2. Position the cursor on the new node (##) and select Create nodes . Accept the Return value default setting on the following screen and confirm by choosing Enter . Enter 05/HRLY## on the screen that then appears (Return value for field value ##), and choose Copy .
      3. After you have changed the LGMST feature, check the feature for errors.

Create a Wage Type Model

Business Example

As a personnel administrator you will be creating a wage type model based on an employee’s organizational assignment. You need to copy the wage types and implement the LGMST feature to setup a new infotype according to your organization’s wage structure.

Define a wage type model with the naming convention HRLY## which includes your three new customer wage types. Then, check the LGMST feature to understand its functionality. Test your configuration by setting up a new Basic Pay infotype.

Steps

  1. Define a wage type model with the naming convention HRLY##. This should contain your three new customer wage types. The system should propose the wage types so that they can be removed from the Basic Pay infotype at any point in the future.

    1. In the Project IMG, choose Personnel ManagementPersonnel AdministrationPayroll DataBasic PayWage TypesRevise Default Wage Types .

    2. Choose New entries.

    3. Create the following entries:

Wage type modelStart dateEnd dateSeq.no.ModeWage type
      HRLY##01.01.202431.12.999910##10
      HRLY##01.01.202431.12.999920##20
      HRLY##01.01.202431.12.999930##30
    4. Save your data and return to the IMG.

  2. Check the LGMST feature in the IMG step: Enterprise Structure for Wage Type Model.

    1. In the Project IMG, choose Personnel ManagementPersonnel AdministrationPayroll DataBasic PayWage TypesEnterprise Structure for Wage Type Model.

    2. The system displays the Process feature LGMST: decision tree screen.

    3. To update the LGMST feature in Tree maintenance, you must perform the following processing activities:

      1. In country grouping 99 , search for node PERSK and the employee group ACTIVE. Position the cursor on the PERSK node and select function Create nodes. On the Values for PERSK screen, enter ## (## is your new employee subgroup). Then, select Transfer. Position the cursor on the new node (##) and select Create nodes . Accept the Return value default setting on the following screen and confirm by choosing Enter. Enter05/HRLY## on the screen that appears (Return value for field value ##), and choose Transfer.
      2. After you have changed the LGMST feature, check the feature for errors.
  3. Create a new Basic Pay (0008) infotype record for the personnel number 305992##. The system will now default your wage types. Enter your pay scale group and level, and choose Enter. The system will now calculate the amounts for your wage types too. You have now set up the infotype as required, and so you can save your entries.

    1. Human ResourcesPersonnel ManagementAdministrationHR Master Data.

    2. Choose Maintain.

    3. Enter the personnel number 305992##.

    4. Enter infotype 0008 and use the start of this month as the start date.

    5. Choose Create.

    6. Maintain the pay scale group and level.

    7. Choose Enter. The amounts are entered in the fields.

    8. Save your entries and return to the SAP Easy Access screen.

Update the LGMST Feature

Business Example

As a personnel administrator, you have to decide which wage types would be applicable to which category of employees. To implement this, you should understand the LGMST feature and implement it accordingly.

Update the LGMST feature to ensure that your wage type model (HRLY##) is defaulted for your employee subgroup. You should be able to assign different wage types in the Basic Pay infotype. You should also be able to assign a total of 5 wage types in the Basic Pay infotype.

Note

Your instructor will provide direction on how the feature is to be handled. The instructor may choose to update the feature for all participants. If the instructor decides to do this, you can use the detailed steps of this exercise as a reference.

Steps

  1. Check the LGMST feature in the IMG step: Enterprise Structure for Wage Type Model.

    1. In the Project IMG, choose Personnel ManagementPersonnel AdministrationPayroll DataBasic PayWage TypesEnterprise Structure for Wage Type Model .

    2. The system displays the Process feature LGMST: decision tree screen.

    3. To change the LGMST feature in tree maintenance, you must perform the following processing activities:

      1. In country grouping 99 search for the node PERSK and the employee group ACTIVE. Position the cursor on the PERSK node and select the function Create nodes. On the Values for PERSK screen, enter ##, where ## is your new employee subgroup. Then, select Transfer.
      2. Position the cursor on the new node (##) and select Create nodes. Accept the Return value default setting on the following screen and confirm by choosing Enter. Enter 05/HRLY## on the screen that then appears (Return value for field value ##), and choose Copy.
      3. After you have changed the LGMST feature, check the feature for errors.
    4. Don't save and activate the feature.
