Assigning User Permissions

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to identify and grant permissions to the end user role needed to view or edit features within Career Development Planning.

End User Permissions Necessary to Use Career Development Planning

The end user role within SAP SuccessFactors typically holds center stage for Career Development Planning. Unlike other modules where the functionality revolves around the management or leadership team, Career Development Planning truly focuses on empowering the employee to utilize the development plan, career worksheet, and career path to obtain the necessary goals and competencies for future roles. To access these Career Development Tools, go to Admin CenterSet User PermissionsManage Permission Roles. Select the end user or employee role and then select Edit and Next to access the Career Development Planning permissions.

The Create Role page is displaying the Add Permissions stage where the Career Development Planning section is highlighted.
Permission NameArea of Control
Mentoring Programs Access PermissionIt grants access to the role to utilize or participate in Mentoring programs
Career Development Plan Access PermissionIt gives users access to the Development module (HomeDevelopment). Additional permissions are required for viewing development plans within the Development tab.
Career Worksheet Access PermissionIt gives access to the Career Worksheet tab within Development. Additional permissions are required for Worksheets as well.
Career Worksheet Suggested Roles Access PermissionIt gives access to the Suggested Role feature of CDP.
Recommended SuccessorsIt grants the ability to see recommended or suggested successors within Succession. You must utilize the competencies and career worksheet for the feature to populate.
Team View: SummaryAllows roles to access the Summary tab on the Team View page in Growth Portfolio.

Hint

Unless you have the Succession module activated by your Professional Services consultant, you will not see the Recommended Successors.

Permissions for Goal Plans

Once the main Career Worksheet permissions are enabled, access to the Career Worksheet template must be granted under Goals.

The user permissions for Goals is shown.

Under the Goals section of User Permissions within Manage Permission Roles, if the Goal Plan Permissions is not set to ALL make sure the Career Worksheet template is also selected.

Note

If the CDP access permission is given, but no development plan or worksheet permissions are given, users will receive an error when attempting to access development plans or Career Worksheets.

Recommended Successors

If Career Development Planning is fully integrated with Succession Management, utilizing the Career Worksheet, and capturing data via the Metadata Framework (MDF), the Recommended Successors permission controls the display of Suggested Successors within the Succession Org Chart v12 as seen below:

The Succession Org Chart tab is highlighted with recommended successors listed.

Note

There are also other end-user permissions that are defined in the back end and that are not defined in RBP. These permissions are coded in the template by the consultants and at this stage are not available in Admin Center. This includes, for example, the permission to create or delete a development goal and the permission to make a role public from the Career Worksheet to the profile.
