Exploring People Search, Action Search, and Directory

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to define the various advantages of SAP SuccessFactors search functionalities.

Benefits of People and Action Search

At the top of the page, users can search for an action or a person's name by entering it in the Search field.

This image shows the Search field on the top of the screen on every page, which allows you to search an action or people.

People Search

People Search in the Global Header enables you to search for and find people in your organization.

The benefits of the Global Header People Search include:

  • Easy access from every page.
  • Supports fuzzy matching, allowing you to find an employee by a search term with a one-character difference from the target employee name.
  • Supports searching for employee names that contain characters with accents, umlauts, diereses, etc.
  • Ability to control the Employee Central (EC) and non-EC user info displayed in the search results with Role-Based Permissions.

Fuzzy Search in People Search

Fuzzy Search allows you to find an employee by a search term with a one-character difference from the target employee's name. This feature applies to the following scenarios when searching for employees:

  • One missing or redundant character. If you search for Joerg, the results also return Jörg and vice versa.
  • One misspelled character. If you search for ALLEX, the search results also return Alex and Allen, and vice versa.

This image shows an example of a Fuzzy Search in the People Search bar, and the results are also shown.

Action Search

Action Search is a feature that facilitates navigation and enhances overall system usability.

End users can use Action Search to find dozens of common actions directly in the Search field at the top of the page. Users can use natural language to describe what they want to do and then select from a list of suggested actions.

Administrators can use Action Search to access Admin Center. Administrators can also:

  • Create a search for relevant actions based on keywords and synonyms.
  • Manage and configure their own action keywords and custom links.

There are several predefined actions and paraphrases within SAP SuccessFactors. If you would like for users to have additional keywords or paraphrases to search by, you can add your custom paraphrase within a specific Action.

This image displays the Search field and an example of an action search word and the results.

Directory Search

Directory Search is a permission-controlled search tool used to search for people in your organization by certain criteria.

You can access this tool on the Company Info page or through the Global Header Search bar.

You can search by names containing characters with diacritical marks, such as accents, umlauts, and dieresis.

Search by tags or by fields. The administrator can remove certain fields and tags.

You can also include inactive users.

This image displays the Directory Search page and the options by which to search for people.

Directory Search Results

From the Directory Search results, users with the permissions can Export, Print, and Email.

When exporting the results, you can select many fields, including the login method.

This image shows example results of a Directory Search and the icon options underneath the results to Export, Email, and Print Preview.
