Exploring the Basic Navigation

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  • Explain the difference between instance and provisioning.
  • Get the overview of themes in SAP Fiori.
  • Describe the various options of the Main and Name Menu.
  • Describe the various functions of Personal Settings.

Instance vs. Provisioning

An Instance is the front end, or customer-facing view, of the SAP SuccessFactors system platform. SAP SuccessFactors customers work with implementation consultants to configure their instance of SAP SuccessFactors.

Consultants, administrators, and end users see the same interface, but just like any other system, access to tools varies depending on what has been configured.

Provisioning is the key configuration tool SAP SuccessFactors uses to control many aspects of the customer instance. In essence, Provisioning is the back end of the system. Customers never use Provisioning, nor do they have access to it.

Log in to SAP SuccessFactors

Each SAP SuccessFactors user is assigned a username and password for your company's SAP SuccessFactors instance.

Additionally, your company is assigned a URL and Company ID. To log in to SAP SuccessFactors, enter the Company ID, username, and password when prompted on the Login screen. The look and feel of your Login screen depends on the theme used in the instance.

Theme Manager and Theming Strategies

You can use Theme Manager to control the look and feel of the SAP SuccessFactors system. You can select from a list of predefined themes or create custom themes, then assign them to different groups in your organization.

With Theme Manager, you can

  • Select from a list of predefined themes
  • Create new themes
  • Assign different themes to different groups in your organization (based on department, division, or location)
  • Apply a different theme to landing pages, like the home page
  • If you don't choose or create a default theme, the latest SAP Fiori theme is used by default for all groups.

Consider these different strategies for theming your SAP SuccessFactors system.

  • Use one of the predefined themes provided in Theme Manager as-is.
  • Create a custom theme based on one of the predefined themes in Theme Manager. First, duplicate one of the predefined themes to use as a starting point. Then, change some theme settings to apply your brand, such as logo or header background color, and keep most predefined colors and settings.

Note

If you use a custom theme, you can define the color for many, but not all, UI elements. Colors that can't be defined in Theme Manager or that you choose not to define in your custom theme are defined by the current SAP Fiori base theme instead.

Themes and Horizon Visual Theme for SAP Fiori

The Horizon visual theme is the latest evolution of the SAP Fiori design system. It's enabled by default in all SAP SuccessFactors systems and available on the most commonly used pages in the HCM Suite.

The Horizon visual theme is a purely visual change. There's no impact on functionality or data. On pages that use the Horizon visual theme, you see the following visual changes:

  • Updated visual treatment, such as rounded corners and drop shadows
  • Updated typography, such as font sizes and font weights
  • Updated default color palette, with higher contrast
  • Updated theming, with more consistent use of colors in custom themes
  • Updated icon set
  • Updated spacing, such as margins and padding

It's important to understand the relationship between themes in the SAP Fiori design system and themes in the SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite. Both impact the look and feel of your SAP SuccessFactors system but in different ways.

SAP SuccessFactors uses SAP Fiori visual themes as the base for colors and styling in the HCM Suite.

Main Menu

Main Menu (also referred to as the Navigation Menu or Module Picker) is available as a drop-down menu in the upper-left corner on the Home page and displays the modules to which you have access. Depending on a user’s role within the organization, they may see different options in the menu. For example, an administrator will see the Admin Center, but a basic end user will not. This access is determined by permissions and/or system configuration.

The top name of the Navigation Menu changes as you move throughout the system to indicate the page you are viewing.

This image shows the main navigation drop-down menu options on the top left of the screen.

Name Menu

The smaller drop-down from the Name Menu at the top right of the screen allows employees to proxy as another user, access and manage their personal settings and preferences from Settings, access Admin Center, and log out of the system.

Personal Settings

Under the Name MenuSettings, based on the configuration and the permissions, end users can:

  • Change the password and define security question
  • Choose the default start page
  • Define if they want to receive emails or read messages in the system
  • Choose a default language
  • Assign Proxy
  • Create dynamic groups
  • Generate instructions for the mobile application
  • Choose the Gregorian, Buddhist, or Hijri calendar as their primary calendar in their personal account settings.
