Introducing Rail Connectors

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to manage Rail Connectors on the Travel Configuration Page.

Introduction to Rail Connectors

Rail Direct Connect or API vendors are managed through Concur Travel’s Rail Connectors feature. This feature allows administrators to add and manage rail connectors within a company's travel system.

Blue graphic with a large black speech shape containing the quote: “We have rail vendor contracts with rates unavailable in the GDS. How can we manage this in Concur Travel?” attributed to Erick Foster, Administrator, with a person in a red plaid shirt standing on the right.

Connectors are typically used when a customer has a contract with a vendor that provides access to their inventory and content.

To access the Rail Connector settings on the travel configuration page, use CTRL+ F to search for the setting as depicted in the following graphic.

Screenshot of an Concur Travel administration page for Rail Connect configuration. A search bar at the top shows “rail connect…”. The page contains sections and fields for General rail settings (corporate reference/account number, connection environment with Production/Test options, and a Configure Trainline button), Amtrak Direct Connect (enable option and ticketing-related fields), SMCF/PNR and Route Codes (agency code and password), Deutsche Bahn business setup (customer number, company name, delivery email, connection environment), and Ground Transportation options (accounting field mapping, corporate rate disclaimer language, and ground start page text). Various checkboxes, dropdowns, and input fields are visible throughout.

In the Rail Connectors section, you will find options specific to each rail vendor, as well as the general option Allow departure time to be specified to the nearest quarter hour. To enable this option, simply select the checkbox.

To enable Rail Connectors in Concur Travel, select the Enable checkbox next to the vendor’s name and enter the credentials. Review each vendor's section to learn more about their specific settings.

Note

Information required varies depending on the vendor and what they support, as on the GDS. Not all vendors are available on all the GDSs and regions, so this lesson might contain images or procedures that do not exactly match your implementation.

The tabs on the Travel Wizard change according to the rail configuration. When no rail connector is enabled, the Travel Wizard displays the AIR (only) tab.

When at least one rail connector is enabled, the AIR tab automatically changes to AIR/RAIL, with the exception of Deutsche Bahn, which requires the setting Show BIBE results in air searches to be enabled to display the AIR/RAIL tab.

Side-by-side SAP Concur Travel booking panels. The left panel is labeled “Air” with airplane, car, and hotel icons and a “Flight Search” form featuring tabs for Round Trip, One Way, and Multi City; “From” and “To” fields accept departure/arrival city, airport, or train station; a blue Search button and “Show More” link appear below. The right panel is labeled “Air/Rail” with combined airplane and train icon plus car and hotel icons, titled “Mixed Flight/Train Search,” offering the same trip-type tabs, “From” and “To” fields that accept airport or train station, a blue Search button, and “Show More.” Both panels display “Booking for myself | Book for a guest” at the top.
