Here we will summarize apps and transactions which are used in the context of inspection processing with production or process orders. We will furthermore briefly illustrate important customizing settings and configuration options.
Summary of the Inspection-Related Technical Objects in Conjunction With Orders

The inspection lot origins 03 and 04 can be used for quality inspections in conjunction with orders from production:
For discrete manufacturing scenarios, inspection lot origin 03 is used for in-process inspections together with the task list type Routing (type N).
For process manufacturing scenarios, inspection lot origin 03 is used for in-process inspections together with the task list type Master Recipe (type 2).
Inspection lot origin 04 is used for (early) goods receipt inspections together with the task list type Inspection Plan (type Q).
When you maintain the corresponding task list type, you must provide for inspection characteristics and use corresponding control keys for the operations.
In contrast to inspection type 04, the inspection type 03 is not stock-relevant. Irrespective of the inspection type, you can use the app Record Inspection Results for results recording.
Defects can be captured using the apps Record Production Defects or Record Warehouse Defects, respectively. Irrespective of the defect category, you can use the apps Process Defects and Manage Defects for further processing.
The following apps/transactions are available for Automatic Usage Decision:
Automatic Usage Decision (Orders):
QA40 – Trigger Manually
QA41 – Job Planning
QA42 – Job Overview
QA40L – Log
Automatic Usage Decision (General):
QA10 – Trigger Manually
QA17 – Job Planning
QA18 – Job Overview
QA10L – Log
Customizing Settings for Inspection Processes in Conjunction With Orders

For inspection lots in production, the system selects the preferred inspection type or inspection type with variant 01 (refer to SAP Application Documentation) for the corresponding inspection lot origin, unless you specify another inspection type in the settings for the order type (IMG path: Quality Management → Quality Inspection → Inspection Lot Creation → Inspection for Manufacturing Order).
Note
Determine whether you need different inspection types in production that are dependent on the order type. If necessary, define variants for these inspection types and predefine them for the order type at plant level. Note that the displayed customizing table is a part of the Production area.

You can define the confirmation parameters per plant and order type. In section General Settings – Checks you can specify which influence a QM results recording has on the confirmation:
Message if no inspection results exist
No message if no results exist
Error message if no inspection results exist

To create improved evaluation options with regard to faulty materials produced, you can specify that the system isautomatically to create quality notifications at the time of confirmation if the user reports scrap and/or rework quantities: You must specify a notification type for Quality Management in section Individual Entry General – Notification Type. In addition, you must make the following settings for the quantity types for which a quality notification is then to be generated in the workstep Define Quantity Layout:
Code Group, Catalog 9
Code
Number of Defects
Reason
With these settings, you satisfy the preconditions for the system to generate a quality notification in the background in the case of the following confirmation transactions:
Time Ticket (Single-Screen Entry) (CO11N/COR6N)
Confirmation of Production/Process Order (CO15/CORK)
In the administrative data for the display for the confirmation, you can display the quality notification that the system automatically created at the time of confirmation. Double-click on the number of the quality notification to display the latter.
