Maintaining Master Data for Defect Recording

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  • Maintain the QM view of a material master for defect recording
  • List catalog data which is required for defect recording

QM-Specific Data in the Material Master for Defect Recording

The master data record of a material in SAP S/4HANA is split up into different views. Some views (for example, the Basic Data view) are valid for entities defined in the client. Other views (for example the Quality Management view) are plant-specific such that the user can maintain different QM-related settings for different plants.

A prerequisite for the creation of an inspection lot for an order is that an inspection type with inspection lot origin 03 is active in the material master of the manufactured product.

How to Maintain the QM View of a Material Master for Defect Recording

Catalog Data for Defect Recording

As a prerequisite for defects recording, you must maintain catalogs with defects, defect locations, and usage decisions.

Defect Recording for the production/process order is an example for simple use of SAP Quality Management without extensive planning. To execute this process, you must only set up defect catalogs (representing a list of possible defects that can occur and/or you can observe during production, for example, scratches, malfunctions, wrong components, and so on) and a usage decision catalog (for terminating the inspection lot, for example, accepted or rejected). If you want to codify the location of the defect (for example, the location of the scratch), you define a defect location catalog.

Note

Defect catalog and usage decision catalogs represent the minimal master data with respect to catalogs. If you require more information, you can use additional catalogs (for example, defect location, cause, actions, and activities).
