Executing Defects Recoding Using the Production Defect

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to record defects for the production order using the production defect

Using the Production Defect for the Defect Recording for the Production Order

The production defect is a simple alternative process to defect recording with inspection lots which was discussed in the previous chapter. When using the production defect, you can create defects of different defect categories. Depending on the defect category, you can record different data for a defect. You can use tiles on the SAP Fiori launchpad homepage for the individual defect categories:

  • Generic Defects

Defects of the category generic defect are independent of any specific reference object, such as an inspection lot or a material. You record generic defects in the app Record Defect or in the app Process Defects.

  • Production Defects

Defects of the defect category Production Defect contain production-relevant information from the production order. If you specify a production order, data such as the material, unit of measure, and work center are taken from the production order.

The image shows the app Record Production Defect. You describe the defect in a short and long text field, use codes, and enter the reference to the production order, operation, work center, and so on. For more information, refer to the following text.

Using Record Production Defect, you create a production-relevant defect. This takes you directly to the Record Defect app. The defect category is used to make material data from production available to the defect during defects recording. You can attach images (in order to document the defect, for example) to each defect and define tasks.

Tasks are usually used to document immediate corrective measures which were implemented to rectify the defect. Typically, you maintain a task processor and a task description in the form of a code, a short, and longtext. Then, you release the task and the task processor is notified. The task processor executes the task, gives feedback about the task execution, and closes the task by setting a respective status.

If a more comprehensive processing is required for defects of the category Production Defect, you can execute follow-up actions for tasks. The execution logic of a follow-up action is provided using a Business Add-In (BAdI) implementation of the BAdI FOA_EXECUTION_FOR_TASK. For the category Production Defect, you can define a follow-up action that executes a stock posting to blocked stock for a material.

Hint

This function is implemented in the standard system in the Business Add-In implementation QMPBLST.

For additional information, refer to the SAP Application Documentation.

Similar to the inspection lot related defect, you can also escalate the production defect or generic defect to a structured problem-solving process such as 8D.

Note

For additional information about the problem-solving process in SAP S/4HANA, refer to the SAP Application Documentation.
