Objective
After completing this lesson, you will be able to define the role of the File Repository Servers (FRS).
File Repository Servers (FRS)
Input File Server and Output File Server
File Repository Servers are crucial for users to be able to view BI reports and instances on SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025.
- Considerations:
- Administrators need to ensure that the File Repository Servers (FRS) status are running and enabled at all times to manage the storage and retrieval of various BI documents.
- To resolve document processing, versioning and sharing issues within the BI environment, the first step is check if there are any issues related to File Repository Servers (FRS) and the File Store Directory used to store BI documents.
- There are two types of File Repository Servers (FRS):
- The Input File Repository Server:
The Input FRS stores any object a user saves to SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025.
- The Output File Repository Server:
The Output FRS stores successful instances (a copy of the original report with saved data) that is generated by the Adaptive Job Server.
Input FRS Properties
Properties Management in CMC
An Input File Repository Server uses a dedicated File Store Directory to store BI content files (for instance, reports, universes) on SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025. You can see this server store location in CMC.
- File Store Directory:
- The File Store Directory is the physical path or location on the server’s file system where BI reports or files are stored.
- Administrators need to ensure that there are sufficient disk spaces to allocated to the File Store Directory.
- You can locate the File Store Directory from the Input File Repository Server properties area in the Central Management Console (CMC).
An Input File Repository Server uses placeholders on SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025. You can see them in CMC.
- Placeholders:
- FRS Placeholders are variables or dynamic placeholders used in the configuration setting of the FRS.
- These placeholders are replaced with actual values during run-time, providing flexible and adaptability in the configuration.
Note
For theTRAINING.InputFileRepository server, the actual path of where files are stored is D:/Program Files (x86)/SAP BusinessObjects/SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0/FileStore/Input/.
- Follow this link to describe the Input File Repository Server Properties: (Input File Repository Server properties).
Output FRS Properties

An Output File Repository Server uses a dedicated File Store Directory to store BI content files (for instance, report instances) on SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025. You can see this server store location in CMC.

Input & Output FRS Metrics
FRS Metrics Monitoring in CMC
Input and Output FRS metrics can be viewed in CMC at any time. They provide a current view about the FRS health and performance (for instance, active files, available disk space, active connections).
- Definition:
- Metrics are the KPIs of the health of a server. The term 'server' refers to an SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 server, and not to the host that the product is installed or running on.
- Metrics of the File Repository Servers (FRS) can be monitored only in the Central Management Console (CMC), like:
- Active Files: The number of files in the File Repository Server that are currently being accessed.
- Data Written (MB): The total number of megabytes written to files on the server.
- List of Active Files: A table that displays the files in the File Repository Server that are currently being accessed.
- Active Connections: The total number of active connections from clients and to other servers.
- Available Disk Space in Root Directory (GB): The total amount of available space on the disk containing the server's executable file, in gigabytes.
- Free Disk Space in Root Directory (GB): The total amount of free space on the disk containing the server's executable file, in gigabytes.
- Total Disk Space in Root Directory (GB): The total disk space on the disk containing the server's executable file, in gigabytes.
- Available Disk Space in Root Directory (%): The amount of available disk space, in percentage, on the disk containing the server's executable file.
Note
Follow the link to display the FRS metrics that appear in Central Management Console: (
FRS Metrics).
Verify the Correct Behavior of the FRS
In this exercise, you will verify the correct behavior of the FRS.
Summary
- Administrators must keep FRS running and enabled to manage storage and retrieval of BI documents.
- There are two types of FRS—Input FRS stores user-saved objects, and Output FRS stores successful report instances generated by the Adaptive Job Server.
- The File Store Directory is the physical location for BI files, and administrators must ensure sufficient disk space is allocated.
- FRS Placeholders in FRS configuration provide flexibility and adaptability during runtime.
- To resolve document processing and sharing issues, administrators should first check for problems related to FRS and the File Store Directory.
