Managing Server Intelligence Agents (SIAs) with the Central Configuration Manager (CCM)

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to configure SIA nodes using the Central Configuration Manager (CCM).

Central Configuration Manager (CCM)

SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 Management

Administrators have two different applications to manage SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025. The Central Configuration Manager (CCM) application is recommended to administrators for managing the application layer (SIAs) and the presentation layer (web tier) at the operating system level.

Considerations:
  • The Central Configuration Manager (CCM) is an important administrative tool to manage an SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 node.
    • In a Microsoft Windows environment, the CCM allows you to manage local and remote servers through its graphical user interface (GUI) or from a command line.
    • In a Linux/Unix environment, the CCM shell script (ccm.sh) allows you to manage servers from the command-line.
  • The CCM allows you to create and configure Server Intelligence Agent (SIA) nodes and start or stop your Web application server (Example: Tomcat). Central Configuration Manager (CCM) is recommended to be used by administrators when working at the system host level (SIA, web application server).

    Note

Most server management tasks are handled through the Central Management Console (CMC), not through the Central Configuration Manager (CCM).

Create an SIA Node

In this exercise, you will create an SIA node.

Confirm Server Availability

In this exercise, you will confirm server availability in the CMC.

Summary

  • The Central Configuration Manager (CCM) is a crucial administrative tool for managing a BI platform node.
  • On Windows, the CCM offers both GUI and command-line options to manage local and remote servers.
  • On Linux/Unix, the CCM shell script (ccm.sh) enables command-line server management.
  • The CCM can create, configure, and control Server Intelligence Agent nodes and web application servers like Tomcat.
  • Most server management tasks, however, are primarily handled through the Central Management Console (CMC), not the CCM.
