- Phase-wise installation
- Silent installation
- Prerequisites:
- Before you begin the actual installation of SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025, make sure that the following requirements are met as listed in this document (Product Available Matrix).

Installation Options
Deployment Options
An SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 deployment can be installed with different options.
Watch this video to know more about the installation options.
Interactive Installation Method
Operation Mode
An SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 deployment can be installed in interactive mode by following steps from a graphic user interface setup.
- Steps For an Interactive Installation:
- Go to the package download location and run setup.exe with administrative privileges.
- Select the setup language.
- The language setting is used by the installation program to display information to you in the language of your choice. If you select a non-English language, the corresponding language pack is automatically installed on the server.
- The installation program will automatically run in the same language as your operating system. The language used by the installation program will determine the names used for Windows components configured by the installation program, such as Windows service names and Start menu shortcuts. These names cannot be changed later and are not affected by language settings once the installation is complete.
- On the Check Prerequisites page, review the results and decide whether to continue with the installation, or abort and correct any requirements that are not fulfilled.
- The installation program checks for required components and conditions. If a dependency prerequisite condition is critical, the installation program will not allow the installation to proceed.
- If the missing or unsupported component is optional, you have the option to either continue with the installation or stop and correct the condition.
- Review the installation welcome page.
- On the License Agreement page, review the agreement and select I accept the License Agreement.
- On the Configure Product Registration page, enter the product key.
Note
Store the product key in a safe place in case you need to re-install the product.
- On the Select Language Packs page, select additional languages to install from the list.
- The language currently being used by the operating system is selected automatically.
- English language support cannot be deselected because it is used if a problem is detected with an individual language.
- The Select Install Type page appears to select the type of installation to perform:
- Full:
- Installs all required server components onto a single machine.
- Use this option to create a single-host deployment, such as a pre-production development or test environment.
- Custom / Expand:
- Allows experienced users to select individual features.
- Use this option when distributing server components between more than one host, such as creating a CMS cluster, or when you want full control over which features are deployed to a host.
- Web Tier:
- The web tier includes web applications such as BI Launch Pad and the Central Management Console (CMC).
- Use the Web Tier installation option to install Java web applications onto a default Java web application server.
- Proceed to the next page to start configuring the selected installation depending on your choice in the previous step.
- If you selected a Full installation, proceed to the following link for Full Installation.
- If you selected a Custom / Expand installation, proceed to the following proceed to the following link for Custom / Expand.
- If you selected a Web Tier installation, proceed to the following link for Web Tier.
- When the installation is complete, review the information and proceed to the following link for Post Installation. If you are not using the bundled Tomcat web application server, you must deploy web applications with the WDeploy web application deployment tool.
Desktop Client Applications
Deploying SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 Client Tools
SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 Client Tools can be installed on the desktop client side for BI designers (Web Intelligence documents, Crystal Reports 2025 reports, Universes).
- Main Client Tools:
You can choose to install some SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 client tools like:
- Web Intelligence Rich Client:
- This client application is optional and is used to create and edit a Web Intelligence document locally on your client desktop.
- Alternatively, you can use the SAP BI Launch Pad web application to create and edit a Web Intelligence document.
- Information Design Tool:
- This client application is mandatory in order to create, design and publish universes used by report designers.
- The last generation of universes (.UNX) is only supported on SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025.

Phase-Wise Installation
Operation Mode
To run an SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 installation more efficiently than in a single-phase by default, administrators can choose the Phase-Wise installation.
- Two Phases:
- In addition to the single-phase standard installation, a more efficient way is to use Phase-wise Installation.
- The installation is performed in two phases:
- Caching, which is the process of copying the software to the installation as the first phase.
- Installation after caching is the actual installation process in the second phase.
- Three ways of Running a Phase-Wise Installation:
- Run a phase-wise installation for new installation from command prompt.
- Run a phase-wise installation for update installation from command prompt.
- Run a phase-wise Installation for an update Installation From User Interface.
Summary
- Before installing the BI platform, ensure all technical prerequisites and requirements listed in the Planning and Preparation link are met, including supported operating systems, application servers, and database servers detailed in the Product Availability Matrix (PAM).
- The BI platform offers three installation methods: interactive ( guided wizard), silent (command line or text file), and phase-wise (caching and installation after caching).
- Interactive Installation method involves using a wizard that prompts for all installation-related information and allows for selecting individual options through a series of screens.
- Phase-Wise Installation is an efficient method that involves two phases: caching (copying the software to the installation location) and installation after caching (the actual installation process).
- The BI platform provides various desktop client applications that can be installed using the Client Tools installation program, with an interactive installation method available.
