Upgrade Paths
If you have already deployed an SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.x landscape, you will be interested to think on upgrading it to SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025. Several paths are possible to upgrade it.
- Considerations:
- If you plan to update your existing BI landscape and if you are on BI 4.2.x / BI 4.3.x and the Operating System where the existing landscape is running on is still supported with SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025, then you can perform the in-place update.
- If you need to build a fresh landscape with SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025, you can perform the fresh installation and migrate your content from the previous version using any of the Promotion Management Tools of the SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 version.
- 64-bits Platform Only Supported:
- For Add-ons to work, it is mandatory to update to the corresponding 64-Bit version, which is supported for SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 version.
- The SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 installer is upgraded to 64-bit.
- Uninstallation of SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 and then maintenance operations on Base version will not work.
Note
- SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 is only supported on Windows and Linux operating systems. The Solaris and AIX support is removed.
- SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 is only supported on Tomcat application server, more importantly SAP NetWeaver application server support is removed. Other application servers certification is planned for future.
- The "Web Application Server Container (WACS)" server is no more packaged in SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025, this component is removed. If your web applications are deployed on WACS, recommendation is to use the default bundled Tomcat server or other supported application servers in future based on your choice. As whatever functionality is possible to achieve with WACS, should also be possible with default bundled Tomcat.
With SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025, some former products and features are now deprecated.

New License Keys
With SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025, all BI 4.x license keys are not supported anymore.
- Deprecated Compatibility With BI 4.x:
- License keys for SAP Business Intelligence Platform 4.0 and 4.1 were interchangeable, and also worked in BI 4.2 prior to Support Package 02.
- As for BI 4.2 SP02 and newer, BI 4.3 and SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025, license keys from earlier versions of BI 4.x may no longer be accepted.
- A new license key is required when updating to BI 4.3 and SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 from lower versions.
- You can request the new license key for SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 using your existing contract for SAP BusinessObjects with SAP, and use the same while doing an SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 fresh installation or update installation as mentioned in the following SAP Knowledge Base Article (2282189 - New license keys required for 4.3/2025 (and later)).
SAP BusinessObjects ONE Uninstaller
You could be interested to uninstall some patches and support packages which have been installed on your SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 landscape. For instance, you noticed that a recent support package update has some bad side effects on the platform and you would like to revert your BI platform into a former state.
- Definition:
- SAP BusinessObjects ONE Uninstaller v1.0 was introduced during the BI 4.3 RTM release, later got enhanced during the BI 4.3 SP02 release as v2.0, has now got some bug fixes and had a patch release happened recently.
- SAP BusinessObjects ONE Uninstaller is an interactive lightweight command line tool, written in java as an executable jar.
- This tool enables the removal of redundant/obsolete intermediate versions like Service Pack(s) and Patch(es) without following traditional uninstallation process.

- Benefits of SAP BusinessObjects ONE Uninstaller:
- Tool will free up the hard disk space drastically by removing the obsolete BI Package’s SP(s) and/or Patch(es).
- Future update installation launching will take comparatively less time, as the number of versions to be calculated will become less.
- Simple and elegant way to get rid of intermediate versions of BI Packages, where which you do not need to uninstall and reinstall the latest version.
- Multiple intermediate versions of different packages of BI Suite in a BI System can be uninstalled in ONE go.
- Tool does not require any downtime of the BI system servers or services and applications.
