Securing FRS
The FRS File Store Directory is another single point of failure (SPOF) on SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025. You have to secure this access point to be available at any time, even when the application servers are stopped.
- File Store Location:
Using a Storage Area Network (SAN) for SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 provides the following benefits for the File Store:
SANs typically provide low latency rates.
SANs provide powerful replication features within a disaster recovery configuration.
A mirrored SAN provides snapshot back-ups.
Note
Good disk and I/O performance are critical for the operation of the FRS.- FRS Installation Considerations:
The following are considerations:
Initially, each FRS points to a local file store directory on the host where it was installed.
This configuration should be changed, so file storage is managed in a common area (for instance, on a shared folder or file system).
- You can have more than one Input and Output FRS to support High Availability (cloning or adding new Input and Output FRS).
- It is recommended to have a second Input and Output FRS on a separate machine for fault-tolerance.
- Although multiple FRS servers can run simultaneously in the same system, you have to know that only one of each FRS type will handle FRS requests:
- The first FRS server (of that type - Input or Output) started, running and enabled is the active FRS.
- All other FRS servers started, running and enabled later are passive FRS.
Note
If an active FRS fails, then a passive FRS is changed to active status. When the previously active FRS becomes operational again, it's registered as a passive FRS. - There is no way to see in CCM or in CMC which FRS is currently in an active or in a passive status.
