Terminology
Here is the definition about deployments of SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 systems.
- Definition:
- Small installations (such as test systems) can use a single host for a Web application server, a database server and all SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 servers.
- Medium and large installations can use multiple hosts. For example, a Web application server host can be installed in a demilitarized zone (DMZ) and the SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 host can be installed in the local area network (LAN).
- This combination frees up resources on the SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 server host, allowing it to process more information than it could if it also hosted the Web application server.
- Large installations can have several SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 hosts working together as a clustering installation.

Here are the key concepts about the most important technical elements composing a SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 system.
- Key Concepts:
Administrators have to be familiar with the following key concepts in SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025:
- Host, Node, Server and Service.
- Scaling servers.
Here are the details about the major technical elements structuring an SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 deployment.
- Host:
- This term is used for the physical or virtual machine (PC tower, server blade) that is hosting nodes.
- Every single machine will have at least one node/Server Intelligence Agent (SIA). More than one node could be created if needed.
- Node:
- A node is a collection of SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 servers running on the same host.
- One or more nodes can be contained on a single host.
- Server:
- A server is an operating system level process hosting one or more services, for example, the Adaptive Job Server.
- A server runs under a specific operating system account and has its own PID.
- Service:
- A service is a server subsystem that does a specific function, for example, the Web Intelligence Processing Service.
- The service runs within the memory space of its server under the process identifier (PID) of the parent container (server).
- Scaling:
- Server processes can be vertically scaled, where one computer runs two or more servers (such as the Adaptive Job Server).
- Server processes can scale horizontally, where server processes are distributed between two or more networked computers (such as a cluster with two SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 hosts).
The advantages of having several servers include:
- Improved performance:
Several SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 server hosts can process a queue of scheduled reports faster than a single SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 server host.
- Load balancing:
If a server is experiencing a heavy load, the CMS automatically sends new work to other servers in the cluster.
- Improved availability:
If a server comes across an unexpected condition, the CMS automatically re-routes work to different servers until the condition is corrected.
SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 Maintenance Strategy
With more than 30 years of innovations, the SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform product equips thousands of companies which reliably manage enterprise reporting use cases at scale. Our revised maintenance strategy guarantees Mainstream Maintenance until at least end of 2031 which secures your investments on the long run, whether you want to deploy on premise or in a private cloud.
One of the most important aspects of SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 is its continuous maintenance and support plan. SAP is committed to keeping it available both on-premise and as a managed cloud solution beyond 2030, giving businesses the flexibility to choose the deployment path that works best for them.
Until SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.2, Mainstream Maintenance was followed by 2 years of P1 support. Starting with SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.3, Mainstream Maintenance is now followed by Customer Specific Maintenance during which SAP delivers fixes for high and very high security issues (CVSS >= 7) during the first year. SAP is extending SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.3 Mainstream Maintenance until end of 2026 so that security fixes are guaranteed until end of 2027 as previously committed.
- A New Maintenance Roadmap:
- With SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025, a new chapter is opened with a revised delivery cycle. Until now, support packages have been delivered every year and have been supported only during 18 months.
- Now, SAP is moving to minor releases delivered every 2 years (SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2027 planned in Q1 2027, SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2029), benefiting from 3 years of Mainstream Maintenance followed by Customer Specific Maintenance including 1 year of security fixes.
- Mainstream Maintenance is guaranteed until at least end of 2031.

SAP already has plans for a next release, SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2027, which should be available in Q1 2027, followed by another one 2 years later in 2029.
Altogether, this new approach ensures better security, continuous improvements, a more agile approach to keeping your BI environment secure and efficient, and a roadmap that aligns with your business strategy.
