Explaining the Adaptive Processing Server

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to explain the Adaptive Processing Server.

Adaptive Processing Server Role

A Management Server

An Adaptive Processing Server (APS) can use a lot of processing services on SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025. This type of server can consume a lot of memory because of their underground technology (JAVA). Additional APS can be created with specific services either from the CMC or from the System Configuration Wizard.

Considerations:
  • Configuring the Adaptive Processing Server is important because it allows for optimal resource allocation and management within SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025.
  • Creating additional Adaptive Processing Servers with dedicated services is known as splitting.
  • Splitting ensures that the server adapts to the specific needs and requirements of the BI system, optimizing performance and responsiveness.
  • For a production system, it is recommended to split the Adaptive Processing Server to meet your business requirements.
Two ways of creating additional Adaptive Processing Servers (APS):
You can create additional APSs:
  • Automatically with the System Configuration Wizard in the CMC.
  • Manually with the CMC by creating, cloning and configuring additional APSs.
  • System Configuration Wizard:

The wizard helps you with basic configurations of your SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2025 system, including configuring APSs according to predefined deployment templates. Proper system sizing is strongly advised.

    System Configuration Wizard
  • CMC:

In CMC, you can manually create, clone and configure additional APSs.

When you create a new server in the CMC, you initially choose one of the services. Next, you are given the opportunity to select additional services for the new server, based upon server type.

Watch this video to see how to create additional APS.

The following table lists all the services that are hosted by the Adaptive Processing server.

Summary

  • Configuring the APS is crucial for optimal resource allocation and management within the BI Platform.
  • Splitting the APS into additional servers with dedicated services enhances system performance and responsiveness.
  • You can create new APSs using the System Configuration Wizard or manually via the Central Management Console (CMC).
  • The APS hosts various services including connectivity, analysis, web intelligence, lifecycle management, and core services.
  • It is advised to split the APS in production environments to meet specific business requirements and improve efficiency.
