Customizing Help Text

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to create custom help text.

Custom Help

Custom help text is used to provide additional information about the purpose of a field for users entering data into the field. This option can be useful if you want to include helpful hints about company processes directly on the forms to help employees and/or candidates populate the correct information.

Custom help text is available for requisitions, applications (candidate view and recruiter view), profiles, and offer details.

A question mark (?) is shown next to the field. When clicked, the help text displays.

A user can be given the permission to create custom help text.

  • If role-based permissions are used: Manage Permission RolesManage RecruitingManage Recruiting Custom Help Text.
  • If the customer uses legacy permissions: Admin CenterManage Recruiting AdministrationManage Recruiting Custom Help Text.

Configure Custom Help Text

Business Example

In this exercise, you will create custom help text.

Task 1: Enable custom help text

Steps

  1. As the administrator, navigate to Admin CenterRecruitingManage Recruiting Custom Help.

  2. Add custom help text to two fields on a job requisition by following the steps below:

    1. On the Job Requisition tab, click the Select Fields button to display the list of available fields.
    2. Select the fields to which you want to add custom help text.
    3. Select OK.
    4. Choose the first field and enter the text in the text box.
    5. Use the rich text formatting options as desired.
    6. Scroll down and select Save.
  3. Repeat these steps to define the help text for all selected fields.

  4. Click Save.

Task 2: Review your custom help text

Steps

  1. To view your entries, navigate to Recruiting and select an existing requisition.

  2. Hover over the job title and select View or Edit Requisition to open the job requisition.

  3. Find the fields for which you added help text and verify that the icon is visible.

  4. Select the icon to view your help text.
