Enabling Accessibility in SAP SuccessFactors

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  • enable accessibility options in SAP SuccessFactors.
  • apply greater color contrast in the user interface with High Contrast Theme options.
  • convey information with screen readers.
  • navigate the software with keyboard shortcuts.

Accessibility Overview

Accessibility options make the SAP SuccessFactors HCM solution easier for people to use, according to their personal needs.

Accessibility features include:

  • High Contrast Themes
  • Color Adjustments
  • Use with a Screen Reader
  • Keyboard Navigation

Personal accessibility settings in SAP SuccessFactors are complementary to any other accessibility settings that you have enabled in your operating system or browser. If you need any of these accessibility features, it's recommended that you enable them in your SAP SuccessFactors system as well as the accessibility settings that you've chosen on your local machine.

High Contrast Themes

High contrast themes enable you to apply greater color contrast in the user interface so that it's easier for you to use. You can select the high contrast theme that is better suited to your vision. You can choose either white text on a black background or black text on a white background, depending on your needs.

Enablement of High Contrast Themes

To enable a high contrast theme, use your personal accessibility settings on the user settings page.

  1. At the top of any page, choose your name and select the menu item, Settings, to view your personal user settings.
  2. Select Accessibility Settings.
  3. Select the High Contrast setting.
  4. Select your preferred high contrast theme.
    • Select High Contrast White Text on Black Background if you prefer a dark theme. This theme is recommended for users with light sensitivity.
    • Select High Contrast Black Text on White Background if you prefer a light theme. This theme is recommended for users who need to change colors by using a screen magnifier.
  5. Select Save.
The three steps to update High Contrast Option settings are displayed.

The following figure displays the High Contrast White Text on Black Background setting.

Select the My Employee File on the SAP Success Factors page.

The following figure displays the High Contrast Black Text on White Background setting.

The My Export File option is highlighted.

Color Vision Adjustments

Color adjustments enable you to apply a different color scheme to certain elements in the user interface, such as charts and color-coding, so that they're easier for you to use. You can use a built-in color vision test to select a color scheme that works best for you. You can choose from the following color schemes:

  • Default color scheme
  • Deuteranopia color scheme
  • Tritanopia color scheme

To select your preferred color scheme, use your personal accessibility settings on the user settings page.

The Color vision adjustment option is displayed on the Settings page.

Screen Readers

Screen readers are a form of assistive technology that conveys information that is displayed on the screen in a non-visual way.

It's recommended that you use your screen reader with SAP SuccessFactors in non-virtual modes. You might need to switch to virtual modes occasionally to access non-focusable page content.

If you use a screen reader to access data visualizations, such as charts and graphs, in SAP SuccessFactors, it's also recommended that you enable the Enhanced Screen Reader Support accessibility setting to optimize your experience. This setting converts data visualizations into numeric data tables by default, so that they can be read more easily by screen readers.

Note

The Enhanced Screen Reader Support setting isn't required to use a screen reader. It only changes the default view of data visualizations to a data table.

To activate the Enhanced Screen Reader Support accessibility setting, you need to go to the SAP SuccessFactors system and access your personal user settings page.

Keyboard Navigation

Keyboard navigation is when keyboard shortcuts are used to navigate a software application. Some people use keyboard navigation only, if they aren't able to use other devices like a mouse or touchscreen. Other people use keyboard navigation for greater speed or efficiency, in combination with other devices.

If you use keyboard navigation, you're probably familiar with many of the standard keyboard shortcuts commonly used by modern software applications. In general, you can use these standard shortcuts in the SAP SuccessFactors application as well. Also, some SAP SuccessFactors pages or features also provide non-standard keyboard shortcuts to make them easier to use.

If you use keyboard navigation and want to see additional onscreen instructions about how to use keyboard shortcuts on different pages, it's recommended that you enable the Enhanced Keyboard Navigation accessibility setting to optimize your experience.

The Enhanced Keyboard Navigation setting isn't required to use keyboard-only navigation. It only provides additional onscreen instructions that aren't visible otherwise. This option can be enabled under the Name MenuSettingsAccessibility Settings.

The Enhanced Keyboard Navigation checkbox is highlighted on the Settings page.
The Search feature is highlighted on the SAP SuccessFactors page.
