Assignment of Units to an Operation or Exercise

Unit Selection Criteria

Overview of criteria used to select military units for a mission, including capabilities, equipment, personnel and readiness factors.

This figure lists the criteria for selecting actual units into the operational roles and rotations. It can be noted that the unit’s achievements per the listed criteria is ever changing and is expected to develop with the acquirement of new competencies through materiel, personnel and training.

The planner can look for candidates by many criteria.

An assignment of a unit to an operational role can be done either from the unit's perspective (that is, selecting the unit and assigning it to the operational FE) or from the operation's perspective (selecting the operational FE and assigning a real unit to fulfill the role).

For example:

  1. Select the unit you want to assign.
  2. Go to Operation → Operational Relationship.
  3. Select "Assign".
  4. Relationship Type = Reports to (operation).
  5. Target FE: select the operational FE.
  6. Define the assignment dates.

The assignment dates may be different from the rotation dates, to allow overlapping of units during transition.
