Exploring Additional Smart Walk-Thru Features
Objective
After completing this lesson, you will be able to explore advanced Smart Walk-Thru capabilities such as Initiators, Skippable Steps, Additional Actions, and keywords.
Initiators
Initiators are all the different ways that a Smart Walk-Thru can be started by the End User. This includes Autoplay.
The figure shows the location of Initiators in a Smart Walk-Thru within the Editor.
Why is it important?
Initiators provide your end users with an easier way to access your Smart Walk-Thrus. Ensuring there are proper initiators on your Smart Walk-Thru ultimately increases engagement with the flow.
Ways for your end users to initiate Smart-Walk Thrus include:
- Auto Plays
- Launchers
- WalkMe Menu
- Tasks
- ActionBot Conversations
- Permalinks
- And more!
The figure shows the Initiators Menu.
How to Use the Initiators Menu?
| Scenario |
|---|
The Eddie's team would like to send out an email and provide a link that would play their Subscribe to Treats Smart Walk-Thru. They hope that by improving their engagement with their customers, they will increase their subscription rates. |
| Step 1: In the Editor, open the Subscription Treats Smart Walk-Thru |
|---|
Once you've opened the Smart Walk-Thru, click Initiators at the top to open up the panel for Initiators. |
| Step 2: Copy the Permalink |
|---|
In the Permalink section, you can hit the Copy Permalink text. |
| Step 3: Add it to the end of the URL |
|---|
Find the URL/page where the Smart Walk-Thru should start. |
| Step 4: Copy the Permalink to the end of the URL |
|---|
Move your cursor to the end of the URL, and add the Permalink that you just copied over from the Editor. |
| Step 5: Copy the Entire URL |
|---|
Once you have copied the entire URL, you can link it anywhere in the email - or many other places as well! |
| Summary |
|---|
Permalinks can improve engagement with your content by providing access to WalkMe content through other means such as a link in email, knowledge base article, or even during a support chat. |
Skippable Steps
When a step's element isn't found, if that step is Skippable, the SWT will skip it ensuring that the flow continues. Both Steps and Auto-Steps can be Skippable.
The figure shows an example of skippable step in the Editor.
Why is it important?
Skippable steps are helpful to ensure that a flow does not break but also save you time in that you don't need to create an additional Split with rules to accommodate for when an element is not visible on the page.
The figure shows an example of an error message when a Step is not found.
How to Use Skippable Steps?
| Scenario |
|---|
The Split in Eddie's team Subscription Treat Smart Walk-Thru works well, but it could create some clutter when it comes to the maintenance of rules in the future. For this scenario, we'll make a minor improvement and turn this into a Skippable step if the user does not click the Add Note option. |
| Step 1: Drag and Drop the Step |
|---|
Watch the video to know more. Note that the video doesn't support audio.
First, you'll want to drag and drop the step outside of the Split, so you are able to delete the Split later. Click the "Add Additional Request/Instructions step," and drag it outside of the Split. |
| Step 2: Delete the Split |
|---|
Hover over the Split, and click the Delete button. |
| Step 3: Open the "Additional Request/Instructions" step |
|---|
To turn this into a Skippable step, we'll need to access the Step Options. |
| Step 4: Navigate to Appearance and Toggle on Skippable |
|---|
Under the Appearance tab, you'll see a list of options. Click into Skippable. Simply toggle it on, and you are done! |
| Summary |
|---|
Skippable steps are fantastic to avoid using rules in order the achieve the same result of skipping a step based on elements visible on the screen. This saves builders time when creating and maintaining the flow steps. |
Additional Actions
What are Actions?
Actions are a type of Flow Step in the Editor. In Builder Level I, we learned about the Redirect step type that would be able to immediately take a user to a specific URL.
Additional actions are:
- Open Menu
- Refresh
- Open ActionBot
- Play ShoutOut
The figure shows the list of Actions that are available in the Editor.
Open Menu
This Action type will automatically open the WalkMe Menu. It's generally great for adding to the end of a Smart Wallk-Thru to encourage users to explore additional guidance they may not be aware of.
The figure shows the Open Menu action type.
Refresh
Refresh as an Action will force your web browser to Refresh the page. This is one of the Actions that is least used but can be useful in rare circumstances where you are dealing with a Single Page Application (SPA), and you want to force the page to refresh for WalkMe to evaluate certain rules in the Rule Engine.
Additionally, it can be used to force an element to appear if it does not show up after a user makes some sort of selection. Another use case is if a page will not update data unless there is a page refresh.
The figure shows the Refresh action type.
Open ActionBot
This feature is useful to prompt open the ActionBot, which you can learn more about in the ActionBot course.
The figure shows the Open ActionBot action type.
Playout ShoutOut
Setting the Action to a ShoutOut is a great way to replace a Pop Up step. Why would we do this? ShoutOuts are packed with features, customization, and functionality that Pop-Up steps do not have.
The figure shows the Play ShoutOut action type.
Keywords
A Keyword is a feature in the Smart Walk-Thru settings under Search Ranking. It allows you to add additional words that user might utilize to search for your Smart Walk-Thru by name in the WalkMe Menu.
For new Smart Walk-Thrus, WalkMe automatically generates a few Keywords. It's good to check these out before publishing, and add your own words, too.
The figure shows the keyword under Search Ranking Settings.
Why is it important?
Keywords are important for ensuring that users are able to find the content they are looking for regardless of what they type into the WalkMe Menu. By doing this, you can increase searchability and engagement with your Smart Walk-Thrus. Users might be associating different language to a process than its formal name.
The figure shows how a user searches Update to update their profile, but the Smart Walk-Thru for Profile is not showing up in the results.
