Launchers are buttons you can place on your website that trigger another WalkMe action when clicked. Examples include playing a Smart Walk-Thru, Resource, Shuttle, or a Set of Validation Smart Tips. Launchers are highly effective at increasing user engagement and solving common interface problems.
In this lesson, we will discuss Passive, Moderate and Aggressive engagement strategies as they relate to Launchers.

Content is available at the point of need, but users will have to intentionally interact with your content. This is a good strategy for when you would like to provide contextual guidance to your users.
Informational Text Launchers
Display informational text to the user directly within the application with a customized Launcher.
The figure shows the * Mandatory Signing Required by June 19th * informational Launcher to the right of the Notifications header.

Mandatory Field Launchers
Use Launchers to mark fields with a mandatory asterisk or indicator.
These can be created using custom Launcher designs to match your site seamlessly.
The figure shows asterisk launchers are placed next to mandatory field names.

Launch WalkMe Content
WalkMe Resources, Smart Walk-Thrus, Surveys, ShoutOuts, Shuttles, or the Player Menu can be launched via a Launcher.
It is recommended to associate a Launcher with your most important Smart Walk-Thrus or with Smart Walk-Thrus for processes that your users struggle with.
Strategically place the Launcher on the application to increase engagement.

Content for this strategy will appear to the user at the point of need but does not enforce the user's behavior.
Contextual Guidance
Segment a Launcher to appear based on a particular user action.
For example, does a user need to perform special steps in a form if they select a certain drop-down option?
Have a Launcher appear next to the drop-down once this option is selected. Then, the user can click the Launcher to play a Smart Walk-Thru to guide them through these steps.

With this strategy, the ShoutOut appears automatically to the user at the point of need and will not let the user continue if there is incorrect behavior.
Launchers that Block a Button
"Invisible" Launchers can be used to block elements on a page.
A Launcher placed over a button can prevent interaction with the button until a certain condition is met.
For example, prevent users from being able to click the Submit button until the Support Subject and Description are not empty.
The figure shows how to prevent users from clicking Submit if the Subject and Description fields are empty by blocking the button using an Invisible Launcher.

Note
Use blocker Launchers sparingly. These should only be used for important locations where user progress or access should be restricted.
Launchers that Block the User
These Launchers may block site content or the ability to access certain sections of the site.
For example, blocking irrelevant tabs of a navigation menu for certain users using Segmentation.
The figure shows the Partners tab of the Eddie's navigation menu is blocked using a Launcher.

Note
WalkMe can take a small amount of time to appear on the page, so using only WalkMe's Launchers to block sections of content that absolutely cannot be accessed by the user is not recommended.
