Introducing Multi-Language

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to describe the Multi-Language feature and how it works.

Overview

The Text & Multi-Language feature lets you translate any WalkMe content you have created into different languages without having to rebuild it. This enables you to engage your users in their preferred language and support a global audience.

Note

Reach out to your Customer Success Manager to enable the Multi-Language feature before you start building content. The decision to support Multi-Language should be made before any building begins.

Users either select the language from a toggle in the Player Menu, or you can configure WalkMe to change the language automatically.

Translations are done from the Text & Multi-Language page which is accessed from the WalkMe Admin Center,console.walkme.com. WalkMe does not translate the text you create, though we do allow you to export either an .XLIFF file, which is used by popular localization services, or an .XLSX Excel file, which is better suited for human translation.

Use Cases

Use cases include:

  • Translate Smart Walk-Thrus, Shuttles, ShoutOuts, and so on into multiple languages.
  • Reach a global audience with your WalkMe content.
  • Deliver digital adoption to your users in their preferred language.

How it Works?

After your Customer Success Manager has enabled the Multi-Language feature and you have built out WalkMe content such as a Smart Walk-Thru, ShoutOut, Survey, Launcher, and so on, you can use the Multi-Language feature to translate the text of your content.

The first language used in the Editor will be the default language for all your WalkMe items, the Player Menu, and General Setting sections.

Brief Guide on How to Export & Publish Translations

  1. Reach out to your Customer Success Manager to enable Multi-Language.
  2. Create WalkMe content 2 in the Editor.
  3. Sign into console.walkme.com and select the Multi-Language tab on the left.
  4. Export the translation in either XLIFF file format (best for outsourcing translation and localization) or Excel files of .XLSX file .

    Note

    Be sure NOT to translate any BBCode segments OR alter the file's original text/code, formatting, or cells in any way as the file will not be able to be read by WalkMe if any changes are made. ONLY add in your translations.

  5. Once your translations are complete, import the files.
  6. Then, in the Editor, publish every single WalkMe item for which translations were imported to the appropriate environment.

    Note

    Settings Publish alone is NOT sufficient, each piece of WalkMe content with a translation will need to be published to the environment where you expect the translations to appear.
