Subjective feedback from players is a vital element in understanding their well-being, performance capacity, and motivation. That’s why the enhanced questionnaires in SAP Sports One are such a valuable tool - they simplify the process of collecting and analyzing personal insights directly from players, enabling more informed and player-focused decision-making.
With SAP Sports One, you can build question catalogs to gather structured feedback on key areas like performance, health, and nutrition. These insights are instrumental in enhancing team management and individual performance development.
Note
To be able to manage questions in the question catalog in SAP Sports One, you need for example the role of Administrator or Team Manager and the corresponding permission on Question Catalog at Enhanced Questionnaires. An overview of all SAP Sports One user roles and the corresponding permissions is available on the SAP Help Portal (User Roles | SAP Help Portal).
Once you have the necessary permissions, navigate to Questions in the Catalog to begin creating the folder structure for organizing your questions. Select Create Category to define the top-level question categories.
As a best practice, we recommend organizing the structure based on specific areas of responsibility or focus. This could, for example, look like the following:
- Medical
- Nutrition
- Supplementation
- Organizational: Team Management
- Performance, Training, Match
- Psychological and Mental
- Physical Condition
After creating new question categories, you can also manage permissions for each folder. This is especially important when dealing with sensitive content, as not all users should have access to certain questions or be able to include them in enhanced questionnaires.
To control access, you can assign read, write, and manage permissions at the folder level. These permissions can be granted either to individual users or to person groups, allowing you to tailor access based on roles and responsibilities within your team.
Note
For more details on person groups in SAP Sports One, please refer to the lesson Person Groups. When assigning permissions for questions, we strongly recommend always granting access to the Admin_Super group. This ensures that there is always at least one user within the club who has full access to the question catalogs.

Once the folder structure for the questions has been set up, you can begin creating the associated questions. Select Create Question within a question folder to add a new question assigned to that folder. Depending on the question type you choose, you will see different answer option formats.
The following list provides a clear and concise overview of the differences between the answer options for each question type:
Open Questions
Open Questions are the most basic format, allowing you to enter a question to which players can respond freely in a text field. Since no predefined answer options are available, this format is ideal for collecting individual, unstructured feedback.
Rating
The Rating question type enables participants to give feedback in the form of a rating, e.g., on a scale from 0 to 10. This flexibility allows players to express their perception in a more nuanced way.

Single Choice
With the Single Choice option, you can define a set of answer options from which players can select exactly one. You also have the option to add images to each answer choice, which is particularly useful in cases like hydration-related questions - for example, assessing urine color. This visual support helps players provide more accurate answers.

Additionally, you can assign scores to each answer option. These scores are stored in SAP Sports One and allow for immediate evaluation of the quality of responses. They can also be further processed and analyzed in SAP Analytics Cloud. If needed, participants can also select the other option if none of the predefined choices fit their response.

Multiple Choice
The Multiple Choice question type works similarly to the single choice format but allows players to select more than one option. You can define a minimum and maximum number of selections to control how many responses participants can or must provide.

Slider
The Slider is a useful tool when you want to offer players a range of values to choose from along a continuous scale. You can define the starting and ending points of the slider (for example, from 1 to 10), set a default position, and label the left, center, and right ends of the scale to give participants additional orientation.

Date/Time
When using the Date/Time question type, participants can provide responses in a specific date and time format. This is particularly helpful for capturing time-based data, such as availability or the timing of specific events.

Numerical
For Numerical responses, the numerical question type allows you to define your own range of valid inputs. This is especially useful when more precise or complex numerical data - such as decimal numbers - is required.

Body Map
Finally, the Body Map is ideal for medical or pain-related questions. Instead of describing symptoms in text form, players can click directly on a visual representation of the body to indicate specific areas of discomfort or injury. This allows for more precise and intuitive reporting.

Note
Please be aware that the selected question type can affect how results are analyzed - particularly when it comes to calculations within SAP Analytics Cloud. If you need support with this, feel free to reach out to your SAP contact person for guidance.
Regardless of the question type, there are certain question settings that apply universally. For example, when editing a question, you can specify whether the question is active or not. If a question is deactivated, it will not be visible to participants in any existing or future questionnaires. Moreover, if a question is deactivated before a questionnaire has been sent out to participants, it will simply not be included in that questionnaire.
You can also add tags to questions to make them easier to filter and categorize. This feature offers significant value not only within SAP Sports One but also later during analysis in SAP Analytics Cloud. We recommend creating a tag board for questionnaires to ensure that all questions and questionnaire are tagged and structured consistently. This will support both streamlined navigation and effective data analysis. For more details, refer to the lesson Tag Management.
But what if a participant doesn't speak the language in which a question was originally written? No problem - SAP Sports One has a solution for that, too. When creating a question, you can add translations. If a participant’s device is set to a language for which a translation has been provided, the system will automatically display the question in that preferred language. If the device is set to a different language with no translation available, the question will appear in the system’s default language.
To add a translation for a question, click on Add Translation and select the desired language. Make sure to translate all relevant content used in the creation of the question, including the question text, answer options, labels, and any additional instructions.

Finally, you can choose whether to display the description or hints to participants by selecting the option Show to participants. This allows you to provide additional context or guidance for the question, helping participants better understand what is being asked.
After creating a question, you can edit, copy, relocate, delete, or preview it by selecting the question from the list. To access these actions, simply navigate to the created question and use the buttons located in the upper right corner of the screen.
