Categories are used to organize and group similar goals. Organizations can define their own categories, use the standard categories provided by SuccessFactors, or use a combination of both when configuring goal plan templates.

Each goal in SAP SuccessFactors is defined by its fields. These may be as simple as the Goal Name, Metric, Start Date, Due Date, and Status. However, you may also configure other types of fields depending on your organization's tracking and reporting needs.
Fields can be configured as required or mandatory for the employee to complete to force users to fill in the necessary data when creating a goal.
