Introducing Performance Management

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to review Performance Management and forms.

Introduction to SAP SuccessFactors Performance Management

This section provides a basic overview of SAP SuccessFactors Performance Management and information regarding the configuration decisions you will make during implementation.

Performance Management fundamentally transforms the employee review process. In addition to streamlining what has traditionally been a cumbersome, inconsistent process, Performance Management enables you to measure individual employee contributions across the organization – accurately, clearly, and objectively – so you’ll be equipped to decide who you want to keep, reward, or single out for targeted development.

Currently, there are two UI versions of Performance Management forms: Legacy Performance Management and Latest Experience of Performance Management Forms. This course is entirely based on the Latest Experience of Performance Management Forms.

Note

The Latest Experience of Performance Management forms has been enabled by default in 1H 2026 for all customers who have been upgraded to the latest Goal Management and Job Profile Builder or Talent Intelligence Hub, with the option to disable the experience in the Admin Center if they are not ready. In 1H 2027, all customers will be upgraded with no exceptions. More information Universal Push of Latest Performance Management Experience Planned for 1H 2027.

This is planned, but subject to change. Make sure to check the latest updates on the SAP Community post.

Performance Review Forms

Managers and employees use a performance review form to evaluate the employee’s effectiveness in achieving goals, core values, and job-specific competencies.

SAP SuccessFactors populates goals from the employee’s goal plan onto the employee’s performance review form in the Goals section and populates core and/or job-specific competencies and skills on the form based on the configuration options discussed in the Attributes section.

Performance Review Forms Access

The Home page provides users immediate visibility into the review process, what’s required, and when. The For You Today section calls out the key next steps in the process and the current review status and allows managers to drill down to access each review's details easily.

Tasks related to performance steps are listed as pending tasks on the For You Today section or visible from the To-Do panel. They show in a pop-up window when Review Your Performance (or Review Employee Performance for managers) is launched and become active links to the form when user input is required.

A Self Assessment is highlighted on the For You Today section. The Review Performance task is highlighted in the To-Do section.

Forms are accessible from the Inbox by selecting the Main Navigation Menu and choosing Performance.

Some of the key actions to take from the My Forms page include:

  • Create folders to organize their completed forms from the Manage Folders link on the bottom left of the screen next to the wheel icon.
  • Create New Forms individually - select the Create Form button. This option requires the Permission to Create Forms granted in Role-Based Permissions and located in the General User Permission category.
  • Access in-progress or completed forms in the En Route or Completed folders.
Forms are accessible from the My Forms page within the Performance menu whenever user input is required.

Performance Management Feature Settings

In SAP’s long-term goal of implementing or configuring SAP SuccessFactors HCM to make it easier and faster, and empowering customers, some Provisioning (Back end) settings have been added to the instance (Front end). Since administrators do not have Provisioning access, they can turn features on and off without needing to request them through an SAP SuccessFactors consultant.

You may choose to roll out a subset of all available Performance Management features initially and then expand the feature set over successive performance review cycles.

Features are enabled in Admin CenterPerformance Management Feature Settings, as shown in the figure below.
