Creating Rate Component Groups

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to create a Rate Component Group in SAP Fieldglass.

Rate Component Group

Because the results of rate component calculations are often the basis of other calculations, individual components cannot be directly associated to rates. Instead, relevant components must first be grouped into Rate Component Groups and the appropriate relationship of the rate components be established before the rates can be calculated.

Rate Component Groups allows multiple rate components to be applied to a particular position. So organizations can then apply all of the rate variances to a position without having to enter each one separately. If Rate Components are used, the Rate Component Group is associated to a position and appears on a job seeker's record.

A Work Order emphasizing a table displaying Rate Components. In the Rate Component column are WTD, Apprenticeship Levy, National Insurance, Pension, and MSP Markup. Additional columns display the Level for each, whether they are non-taxable, the Type of component, and the Final percentage of each based on their assigned level.

Navigating the Rate Component Group Admin Object

The Rate Structure section of the Admin Menu, the Rate Component Group selection is highlighted.
1To review a list of rate component groups that the tenant uses, select Rate Component Group from the Company Structure section of the admin menu.

Rate Component Group List Page

The Rate Component list page is organized simply by code and name. However, if the option is enabled, some users can upload rate component groups directly from this page using the connector controls in the upper right corner.

Rate Component Group List page, with the component groups listed by Code and Name. Buttons at the top of the page allow you to create a new component, view a guide about components, download a component upload template, and upload the template. View Guide, Download Template, and Upload file buttons, as well as the PAYE MSP link in the Code column are highlighted.
2

The View Guide / Download Template / Upload File features must be specially enabled at the User level. When enabled,

  • View Guide will take you to the SAP Help page to learn more about uploading rate component groups in bulk,
  • Download Template will download the proper rate component group upload template, and

Upload File will accept the completed upload template.

When uploaded, the Integration Audit Trail will indicate the success or failure of the upload.

3To view the details of a rate component group, select an appropriate link in the Code column.

Rate Component Group Details Page

Rate component groups establish the relationship of the individual rate components, and also determine the order of operations by which the resulting bill rate is calculated.

Columns indicate whether the rate is non-taxable, the group code, name, whether to use an admin value, edit value, Include in MSP calculation, include in level subtotal, the type, value mad component limit. The Level, Non-taxable, and Component Limit columns and the Use Admin Structure row of the Rules section highlighted.

Level indicates the order in which the rate components are applied within the group.

  • Level 1 = The 12% WTD component will be calculated from the associated rate.
  • Level 2 = The 1% National Insurance, the 5% Pension, and the 1% Apprenticeship Levy will be calculated based on the result of the WTD calculation.
  • Level 3 = The 5% MSP Fee will be calculated from the sum of the level 2 calculations.
5Non-Taxable indicates whether the rate component will be included in the calculation of tax when tax adjustments are applied to the invoice amount.
6When a Component Limit is added and the calculated component value exceeds this limit, the value will be capped automatically at the amount entered in this column. The Component Limit column does not display when the rate component type is MSP Fee, or if the unit type is Flat Rate.
7If the Use Admin Structure function is enabled, the structure and components from the admin object will be copied when a work order, work order revision, or a statement of work revision or SOW worker is created. This replaces the structure that was used on the parent document (job posting, work order, or SOW).

Create a Rate Component Group

WorkingNet Networking Inc., a global manufacturer of data networking equipment, is creating a new customer support position for their London Office. As the SAP Fieldglass administrator for WorkingNet, you’re creating the rate structure to support that new position.

Because the position is in the UK, the rate structure includes rate components representing a number of fees imposed upon employers to fund worker pensions and social programs.

In order for those components to be associated to rates, you’ll first need to create a rate component group to collect all of the relevant components and determine how they will be calculated relative to the rate.

Summary

Instead of associating individual components directly to rates, relevant components must be grouped into Rate Component Groups to establish relationships before calculating rates.

Key Points:

  • Role of Rate Component Groups: Allows multiple rate components to be applied to a specific position simultaneously, streamlining the process of applying rate variances.
  • Details of Rate Component Groups: The details page shows the order (Level) in which rate components are applied, tax inclusion (Non-Taxable), and any limits (Component Limit) on rate components.
  • Uploading Rate Component Groups: The View Guide, Download Template, and Upload File features enable bulk uploading of rate component groups when special permissions are granted.
