Managing the General Ledger

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to create a General Ledger in SAP Fieldglass.

General Ledger

General Ledgers are bookkeeping ledgers that serve as central repositories for accounting data. They represent the record-keeping system for a company's financial data and provide a record of each financial transaction. They are optional data items in SAP Fieldglass that allow for further classification of an organization’s contingent labor spend.

A General Ledger does not drive functionality, it is used strictly for tracking and reporting purposes.

While their naming conventions are similar, General Ledgers are not the same as General Ledger Accounts. General Ledgers are in place to organize Business Units, while General Ledger Accounts are used to organize and classify task and expense codes.

General ledgers exist solely for the purpose of creating associations, so the only information provided is the list of business units to which they have been associated.

Create a General Ledger

To keep better track of the cost of help desk support teams, WorkingNet Networking Inc., a global manufacturer of data networking equipment, has asked for a new general ledger to be added in SAP Fieldglass.

As the SAP Fieldglass administrator for WorkingNet, you will need to create the new general ledger then associate it to an existing business unit within the tenant.

Summary

General Ledgers are central repositories for accounting data, tracking financial transactions and contingent labor spend in SAP Fieldglass.

Key Points:

  • Distinction from GL Accounts: General Ledgers organize Business Units, while General Ledger Accounts classify task and expense codes.
  • Usage: General Ledgers are utilized in both Contingent and Services modules, specific to associated business units.
