Managing a General Ledger Account

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to create a General Ledger Account in SAP Fieldglass.

General Ledger Account

A General Ledger Account, sometimes referred to as GLA for short, is a data item used for detailed tracking of task and expense codes. After a general ledger account has been created, task and expense codes can be associated to it. If an organization uses task and expense codes for their workers, at least one general ledger account must be created.

While their naming conventions are similar, General Ledger Accounts are not the same as General Ledgers. General Ledger Accounts are used to organize and classify task and expense codes, while General Ledgers are in place to organize Business Units.

General ledger accounts exist solely for the purpose of creating associations, so the only information provided is the list of task codes and expense codes to which they have been associated.

Create a General Ledger Account

WorkingNet, a global manufacturer of data networking equipment, needs to add a new general ledger account called Help Desk Analysts to track certain worker task and expense codes.

As the SAP Fieldglass administrator for WorkingNet, you will need to create the new general ledger account then associate the GLA to the Hours Worked Task Code.

Summary

A General Ledger Account (GLA) is a crucial element for tracking task and expense codes in detail. GLAs are essential for organizations that use task and expense codes for their workers' activities.

Key Points:

  • Requirement: At least one GLA must be created if task and expense codes are used.
  • Distinction from General Ledger: GLAs organize task/expense codes, while General Ledgers organize Business Units.
  • Details Display: GLA details page shows only associated task and expense codes.
