Introducing Launchers

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to identify common use cases for Launchers.

Introducing Launchers

Launchers are buttons you can place on your website that trigger another WalkMe action.

Watch the video to understand Launchers.

Key Takeaways
  • Launchers are customizable buttons you can place on your site.
  • When clicked, they activate other types of WalkMe content such as Smart Walk-Thrus, Resources, Shuttles, and ShoutOuts.
  • These serve as additional entry points for content and help increase engagement with relevant guidance.
What can Launchers Do?

Here are a few examples and uses for Launchers:

  • Play a Smart Walk-Thru: Give users the option to activate a specific Smart Walk-Thru.
  • Open an article or video Resource: Provide users with multimedia assistance when they need it most.
  • Activate a Shuttle: Place links to important web pages at the user’s fingertips.

  • Launch a Survey: Prompt users to complete a satisfaction Survey.

  • Open the Player Menu: Remind a new employee of their remaining Onboarding Tasks.

Why Add Launchers?

The content Launchers open typically gets higher engagement from end users because these buttons can be placed in contextually relevant spots on the page, prompting users to click them when they need help. Here are a few specific reasons to use them:

  • Guide users directly at the their moment of need. When we understand the exact pain points users are facing (like we did in our planning phase!), we'll know where and how to best assist them.
  • Increase awareness of help resources available to users.
  • Increase engagement with current WalkMe items.

Creating Launchers

How to Create a Launcher

Let's review how to create a Launcher in the WalkMe Editor.

Step 2: Select Element + Position

You will need to select the web page element you want your Launcher to appear next to, below, on top of, etc.

Hover your cursor over the relevant element, and select it.

An editing window will appear on the screen. The first thing to do is adjust the position. Tell WalkMe which direction from your element you want the Launcher to appear.

A best practice is to put the Launcher in the "white space" so users will notice it. You don't want it covering up other site elements!

Step 3: Adjust Design

By default, all Launchers say "Walk Me Through." It's a good idea to adjust the text of the Launcher to be specific to what happens when users click it or the relevant context.

In the Design tab of the editing window, you can adjust the text, font, text size, and colors .

Then, select the specific WalkMe item from the next dropdown.
