Troubleshooting Content Before Publishing

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to troubleshoot issues related to play and preview of content.

Play & Preview Content not Auto Playing

In this lesson, we'll look at some common issues that may come up while playing and previewing the content.

Watch the video to view some common issues that you might face when playing the content.

Play Content not Appearing

The Play Mode is a feature of the WalkMe Editor that is automatically available when it is opened. It is particularly useful for previewing how a single WalkMe item will appear on the page. However, it should be noted that Play Mode does not take into account segmentation or Auto-Play rules.

This mode is ideal for performing quick checks, such as verifying that a Launcher is attached to the correct element. It should be noted that only one WalkMe item can be tested at a time in Play Mode.

Is the Editor Connected to the Browser?

In the upper left corner of the WalkMe Editor you can find a status icon.

  • If there is a spinning wheel, your WalkMe Editor is attempting to connect to the browser

  • A green checkmark will appear when the WalkMe Editor has successfully connected

  • Should the WalkMe Editor have issues connecting to the page, wait for 5 seconds and then try refreshing your browser

The figure shows the green checkmark when the WalkMe Editor has successfully connected to the browser.

Preview Content not Auto Playing

Preview Mode is a useful tool that can help you test how WalkMe content will behave in a published environment. This mode is particularly useful when you need to test multiple WalkMe items at once. It takes into account segmentation and Auto-Play rules, so you can get a more accurate simulation of how your content will appear and behave in the published environment.

To activate Preview Mode, you need to select specific items and click Preview. Overall, Preview Mode can help you ensure that your WalkMe content is working correctly and that your users will have a seamless experience.

Display Conditions

For other types of content like Launchers and SmartTips, be sure to check if a display condition has been set and that it is evaluating as true.

Smart Walk-Thru Initiators

In your WalkMe Editor, check in the initiators section found at the top of the Smart Walk-Thru. Ensure that there is something that let's the Smart Walk-Thru know that it's time to appear.

For example, an Auto-Play rule or Launcher could be used to initiate the Smart Walk-Thru.

Segmentation

Is there segmentation applied to the content? Unlike Play Mode, Preview Mode content will not play if it has Segmentation applied that is not valid.

  • Check if there are any Segmentation Tags applied
  • Check if the applied Segmentation Tags are true when the content should play
