How will WalkMe know how to differentiate one person's actions vs. another individual user's actions on your platform?</p><p tabindex="0">WalkMe uses a <strong>Unique User Identifier</strong> (UUID) for this. Introducing Unique User Identifiers

In this video, we'll discuss unique user identifiers and how best to apply in our WalkMe implementation. This setup ensures that our analytics aligns seamlessly with the site's information. Let's get started. By identifying users uniquely, you can tailor Walk Me content and gather meaningful insights for your business objectives. A unique identifier allows you to see accurate data and analytics about system users so you can get insights into user behavior, engagement, and goal completion. They allow you to improve personalization and segmentation of your WalkMe content. With a unique identifier, you can also set and track progress of onboarding tasks for individual users. It's important to set up a unique user identifier and confirm its functioning as expected before continuing with the rest of the WalkMe implementation to ensure data integrity and provide consistent user experiences. WalkMe offers several methods for unique user identification, including identity provider or IDP for short, variables, JQuery, cookies, and WalkMe ID. IDP and variables are our most recommended tracking method as they identify users accurately and consistently, whereas WalkMe ID is our least recommended as its ID changes every user session, so it is not as accurate or consistent. Each method has its advantages and limitations, depending on the site's requirements and user tracking needs. For today, we'll mainly be discussing our most recommended identifiers, IDP, and variables. IDP integration is most recommended for its accuracy and reliability in identifying end users. It provides a secure user ID across systems, enhancing WalkMe content segmentation and user behavior monitoring without needing multiple identifiers. Set up IDP integration by consulting with your organization's identity access management team and visiting the WalkMe Admin Center to the IDP integrations page. From there, your team will be able to add the desired vendor and all the relevant information for that particular IDP integration. While IDP may be our most recommended option for unique user identification, it does not fit every use case. If IDP is not an option, we recommend using a variable. A variable is a storage location with a symbolic name, otherwise known as an identifier, which contains some quantity or value specific to each user. A variable could be labeled as something as simple as the word username. Other times, variables could label as something more complicated. Many sites use variables that correlate with a user ID, username, or email. If you have trouble finding the right variable, reach out to your technical or platform team as they should be aware of the variables accessible on the site. When a variable has been identified and chosen, we'll navigate to the system settings in the WalkMe editor and apply our variable as our unique user identifier. Once applied, we simply publish content to the necessary environment, and WalkMe will start collecting the variables' information for each end user.
