Publishing makes the WalkMe items we create available to an end user, as long as we have the associated Snippet running in their browser. Whether it's to test out our implementation in a Test Environment or release it to our users in a Published Environment, we'll need to understand how to properly configure and Publish our WalkMe items.

Environments are basically different versions of a website where development teams can explore, iterate, and maintain new features and functions before launching to the main platform. At WalkMe, we primarily utilize two environments:

Publishing allows you to select, organize, test, and publish items that you create in the WalkMe Editor to your different Environments. Publishing is an important part of the building process; however, knowing the Environments we're Publishing to, is just as important.
Publishing to the Right Environment
Whether it's to test out our implementation on a Test Environment or release it to our users in the Production Environment, we'll need to understand the purpose of each Environment.
- Test: Primarily used to testing and exploring features and functionalities before launching to end users.
- Production: Primarily used to showcase and launch new features and functionalities to live end users.
The figure shows an example of publishing to Production Environment.

The WalkMe Editor’s content list view shows all the content that was created for the desired System. It is common to have WalkMe items that have different Publish Statuses in each Environment. For example, an item may be Published in the Test Environment, while still being in Draft mode in the Production Environment.
Switching Environment Views
We can view the Publish Status of each item in each Environment by switching the Environment in the top right of the WalkMe Editor.
The figure shows how to switch the Production Environment.

Great job! Now that we're more familiar with the different WalkMe Environments, let's look at Previewing WalkMe content.
